I suppose I could call the NRA with this question, but I like the the frank nature of the forum so I hope you don't mind if I ask here:

I've been a member of the NRA for a few years (2.5 or 3.5 years I think). I renew year-by-year and haven't always been on time with my renewal payment, but I have always had the same NRA number since I started.

My question is about the fact that I read (3 years ago) that if I was a member for a certain amount of time that I'd be qualified to vote in NRA elections.

First, how long do I have to be a member in order to earn the privledge of voting in NRA elections? I only receive, by mail, my magazines, renew notices and various mail persuasions to act on political points. No ballot or anything like that.

Second, what sort, other than voting for President of the NRA, of things do NRA members vote ON?

Please educate me.

Thanks.

You have to be a member for 5 uninterrupted, consecutive years. Lapse for a day and the count starts over. "Life" members have to be fully paid.

They claim to have 4,000,000 members but less than 100,000 do vote in Board elections (maybe a million could vote).

I've been eligible to vote for many years, but honestly, most of the candidates names mean nothing to me, so I have not voted. I will say that although the NRA is not always as aggressive as I would like them to be, they generally are on the right side of gun issues, and they unquestionably are one of the most influential lobbying organizations in Washington. If we could get more gun owners to join the NRA and vote in line with the NRA ratings of politicians we would have a much better chance of keeping and strenghening our 2nd amendment rights.
