I am well aware of 'port pressure' issues with gas guns such as the M1 Garand and the Remington 742's and thier ilk and the recommended powders for them.

Wondering. Do the same requirements apply to the Browning BAR's? What would be a suitable powder for reloading a .270 Win caliber for the Browning semiauto's?

Ordinarily, I'd use IMR 4350 for the .270 as I get GOOD results in a bolt gun with that powder. BUT, would that be suitable for the BAR?

Thanks!

I've been loading for my .30-06 BAR since 1969, the second year of production for this rifle. I've always used IMR 4320 for my loads and I've never had any problems whatsoever, and my load is very accurate from this rifle, using 165 grain bullets. I use the same load for everything from squirrels to elk, since I know where it will shoot. I've taken many limits of gray squirrels with this rifle, using headshots. No meat destroyed and they're already bled out by the time they hit the ground. It also takes elk with a single shot. I can't ask more from a rifle.

Hope this helps.

Don't know.... but for 30 some years i have loaded for my Rem 742 - 308 using either imr 3031 or the last few years 748 and have never had a jam... switched to 748 cause it meters so nice.. both make a good accurate load.. really like hornady 165 btsp #3045.. knock'em dead every time..

Dirtman,

We're both using the same bullet. I've never lost an animal to the Hornady 165 gr. BTSP out of my BAR. It flies true and hits hard.
