Hi,

I would like to reload 30-06 springfield for my Browning bar Safari semi-auto, i have purchased speer game 165 bt bullets, and would like to know if anyone has reloaded this for this gun and what was the best powder they found? any suggestions?

Hi

I use S4350 which is the equivalent to IMR4350 and it works pretty well in my rifle. I get a 1" group at 150 yards.

The first question I would have is does the Browning have the same kind of medium burning powder restrictions like the M1 Garand does. If so, you'd want to select a powder like H335, IMR 4895, 4064, or 4320 for loading. With any of these powders, something about 46-50 grains would be appropriate for a 165 grain bullet.

My Garand likes Remington's 150 grain soft point with 47 grains of IMR4320.

Where would I get this information ? Would I have to load less than suggested loads

Would I have to load less than suggested loads

rex9mm, the Brownings can handle any factory load, and any load that duplicates factory pressure levels, without concern.
As most know, you should begin with the recommended start loads and work up to, but do not exceed, the maximum, and try to get your most accurate load somewhere in between.

Any of the brands of 4350, be it H4350, IMR4350 or Accurate4350, will be good to use. Just make sure that you use the correct data for the specific powder that you use. They are not all the same.

I load for my BAR in .30-06 using H4895 but have only used 150 grain bullets.
It works very well with them, however. I got a three shot group of an inch at 100 yards the last time I shot it.

call winchester directly

I have a browning bar safari 30-06 semi-auto, i decided to call browning directly and ask them what powder to use, and the told me to call Winchester. I called Winchester and they told me to use a medium burning powder W760, they use this in factory reloads, they use 54.6 gr, he suggested I use min 51gr and max 56.5 gr. Just figured i would let you guys know in-case anyone has the same rifle and is looking for this info.

Do you guys think CCI rifle primers will be ok with this?

W760 is a ball (spherical) powder, and many, including myself, recommend using a CCI magnum primer with ball powders, especially if used in cold weather.

i called them back and they said LR wichester primers are best for this load? magnum is not necessary.

rex9mm, You have all the right info now start with MIN. load data and work up.
Win 760 w/ win lr primer sounds good. Try it and post your results.
good luck

i have done some more reading and many also suggest to use magnum primers, as i do hunt in cold weather for white tale. So would magnum primers still be fine for a semi-auto? or would this just be over kill and not necessary? I've always hunted with Rem 165gr Core-lokt, during the winter and never has a problem, are these bullets magnum primers?
