I'm wanting to get an autoloader specifically for use with a suppressor for range use.

Does anyone here use a suppressor on a Hi-Power? Is the factory front sight large enough to accomodate the supppressor or does the suppressor rise above the front sight?

Any other guns which do not require refitting of an aftermarket front sight may fit my needs.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

depends on the can. many will require adjustment.

some of the few guns that will have a high enough front site are those designed with cans in mind.

the HK USP, some of the Sig's. its really model an can dependent i believe
( Hoppy has no experience with cans)

Oh, okay. Too bad I sold my USP and USP compact. I could easily have obtained a threaded barrel for either rather than having to look into purchasing another firearm.

I have a P2000SK now, but that's one of my carry guns and I'd rather shoot with a suppressor on a longer barrel.

Perhaps I'll get a threaded barel for the ol' P229 and see if that works. I'm currently looking into the AAC Evolution. Anyone know if this is a decent can? I've read that this one helps alleviate the forward weight associated with a suppressor and allows the action to cycle properly.

Supposing I were to get a suppressor for a centerfire caliber, what would be the most effectively diminished in sound? .45 ACP, 40 SW, or 9mm? I'm thinking .45 because of low speed right?

Subsonic rounds can be suppressed well, ammo who's bullets exceed the speed of sound will cause the cracking sound you commonly hear when shooting a rifle. All 3 of the calibers you list have factory sub sonic ammunition (velocity under 1,000 fps) available.

As long as it's subsonic, 9mm typically suppresses better than .45 simply because of the relatively large aperture required for a .45 can. Most 147gr 9mm rounds will be subsonic out of a pistol.

You should also keep in mind that many locked breech autos won't function with a suppressor installed. You will need either a very light suppressor pr one equipped with a Nielsen device unless you want a single shot.

I have a gemtech blackside in 40. Shoot it on a g22 with lonewolf threaded barrel and mechtech carbine. Sound suppression is good when the can is oiled. Decent without medium. Large smoke signature though. More of Loud woosh-thump. Out of the mechtech, I believe I am just pushing the sound barrier (have not chrono'ed it), because on a range trip this week on 3 degree Farenheit, got a sonic crack for the first time using 180gr fmj winchester. For true fun, go with a 22 silencer on a bolt action. Quieter than a quiet bb gun. You will be amazed what noise the action makes on autos. Also, the blow back of crap back into the actions makes cleaning necessary on any range trip of note to keep the gun cycling.
