which suppressor which gun?

This is probably the wrong place to ask, but does anyone have any opinions on a good gun to use for suppressing and what suppressor to get for it?

To me, it seems like .45 would be the easiest, popular round to suppress. I was looking at the usp compact tactical before, but I've only seen one review on it (with gemtech suppressor), and the guy talked about a LOT of stovepiping issues.

So.. does anyone know of a good suppressor and autoloader combo? or can anyone link me to another place to ask?

My price limit would be $2k for the combo

45's and 9mm's are the easiest. Im biased towards Gemtech because they are built/manufactured here.

Look into the Beretta PX4 Storm SD(special duty). Its chambered in 45ACP and already comes with a threaded barrel.

Threaded barrels for Glocks can be had for $125 or so from Lone Wolf. On a $500 Glock, you're still WAY below the price of most factory threaded "Special Elite Task Force Combat" models which are usually just a base model with a threaded barrel for $300 more.

If you're cool with Glocks, that's something to think about.

I totally agree with what KoB said. A G17 w/the Lone Wolf barrel is the way to go for max performance/$. Alot of people are disappointed when they hear a suppressed .45 - you typically have to add water or gel to the can to get reasonable sound levels, which can be a hassle & only lasts a mag or two. Alot of people I know run AAC's Evo-9 around here, it's probably the most popular 9mm suppressor in the US right now for good reason. 147 gr. 9mm subsonics are still reasonably priced, and are awesome quiet. I run those in my suppressed M11/9 with good results.

.45 is difficult to suppress and keep compact. There was a suppressor in the '80s that could take it down to the mid-120s dB, but it was almost 2 inches in diameter. Modern cans shot dry are not very comfortable to hear, and are not considered "hearing-safe." Shot wet, they can sound like dry 9mm cans.

Go for an Evo-9 or an SWR Trident 9. Try to buy through www.major-malfunction.com He has the best prices on pretty much everything he offers and you might find more stuff you'll need. Gemtech cans have been underperforming lately. Don't buy a cheap can, as you will be disappointed and have wasted money.

glocks are great for me - in fact, I shot'em better than any gun and was looking towards a g23 w/ a 9mm convert barrel

but.. how's the sound on the advanced armament silencer on the g17.. I'm not looking for anything that'll startle the neighbors if I shoot at big mounds of mud and dirt.. Hell I wish it could be hollywood quiet, but I doubt that's possible w/ any sub2k combo

so the recommendation is g17 w/ new barrel and AAc silencer...
how does it cycle w/ subsonic ammo? I'm not looking for stovepipes and stuff
is there any way to get this 9mm suppressor config on the g22? I only ask b/c I've heard g22's take 9mm barrels or somethin.. and I'd like to give the .40 a try if it can also take 9mm reliably

Oh I forgot.. I already own a sig p226 9mm .. probably cheaper to get a threaded barrel for that and suppress it? maybe?

SIGs are supposed to be very, very quiet suppressed due to the way they are designed. Or so I've heard; I don't own one, but it seems to be the general consensus.

Enough said. Buy a threaded barrel for the 226. It makes a great host for a suppressor. Look at the Jarvis barrels. The 45 is much louder than the 9mm suppressed. I also recommend the AAC Evo9 or the SWR Trident 9. You will be happy with either one. I run a Evo9 on my HK USP9sd and it is very quiet.

$338 for a new Moquito with a threaded barrel. Not a bad deal. It's a .22 so it'd be good for quiet plinking. Would you need hearing protection with a suppressed 22 pistol like that?

The 226 combo is fantastic. Get the new barrel and suppressor and enjoy it. Use the heavy 9mm ammo with and you should be happy with the results and could get it all for less then $1k including stamp if you shop in the right places.
