Yes, I know, I'm breaking the "don't modify your AK" rule, but the wife and I both like vertical foregrips and tactical lights on our AKs. I have a CUR 2 Romanian AK-74 and want to add railed handguards.

These look nice and seem to be about what we want:

I considered the UTG metal rails, but I didn't like th fact that they clamped down with screws and I've heard of some people ending up with bent gas piston tubes.

Price looks good as well.

What is your experience with the AK Ventilated Quad rails? Any other suggestions that would give me 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock rails at a decent price and weight/performance?

Thanks!

I really don't have much experience with rails for AKs. Reguarding the plastic vs. metal thing: I just bought a SAR-2 that had a plastic front handguard with a pistol grip. It was melted around the handguard retainer and had started to melt around the bottom too. I used a lighter to warm it up to break it loose, it actually didn't take much, and I replaced it with wood.

Now I don't know if it was cheap plastic or what but if you shoot the rifle much I'd recommend the metal guards. I'm pretty sure the UTG/FAB/etc. guards aren't going to be made of the best plastics around.

I have the UTG with metal rails and heatshield...I've been told they won't melt and they haven't. They work great on my custom built lancaster! Here's a stock photo that looks exactly like my rifle:

Those are aluminium right? Those look like the way to go if you want quad rails. I don't think you would bend the gas tube unless you used gorilla strength on it.
