A few questions for those who have rebarreled a Ruger No.1
1. Who did the barrel install?
2. What barrel was used?
3. Would you use the same barrel/gunsmith again?
4. What was the turn around time?

I wore the barrel out on my old #1A 7mm RM and Ruger rebarreled it for me.

The price was very low and the work was perfect and done fast.

What with that ramp most of them have I would only have Ruger do it.

I could not be more pleased.

If all you want is a caliber change sell what you don't want and buy what you do want. Cheaper in the long run.

Sorry Saxon, I failed to mention I want it rebarreled to 7mm08. A caliber not currently offered by River.

As I understand it Ruger will not change the chambering on a rebarrel.

What is it chambered for now?

It was mentioned above to sell it as it is and buy what you want.

That's good advice. Rebarreling just to change the chamber wastes a good barrel and it's installation work.

Currently it is a 45-70, and I would like it to become a 7mm08, a caliber not currently offered by Ruger.

The following is from a 24hourcampfire.com thread:

In no particular order:

Mark Stratton, http://www.gunmaker.net/main.html

Carolina Precision Rifles, http://www.cprifles.com/rgr1.htm

Stephen Dodd Hughes (SDH here at the Campfire), (need info)

Paul & Sharon Dressel, http://www.dressels.com/

Gary Reeder, http://www.reedercustomguns.com

Rick Ruggiero, Broad Creek Rifle Works, http://www.bcrw4guns.com

Sandy Garret, Northern VA Gun Works, (703) 644-6504

Bill's Accuracy Shop, http://www.billsaccuracy.com

Might I suggest 7x57 instead as the 7mm08 is essentially it's ballistic twin (though the original handles heavier bullets like 175's better) and is currently available from Ruger?

Of course, my idea of a perfect #1 is the RSI in 7x57 so ... ;)
