question Ruger P97 DC

Have a ruger p97 dc have heard that the srping should be installed the same way it comes out when its broke down question is the spring has a large OD and small OD the spring came out with the small OD out with the barrel is this correct. It seems backwards thats why i ask?

P97 is a good, solid gun. Too bad they quit making it.
