I have been thinking about getting my ffl. I am not sure if they are worried about the fire rating so I was thinking about going to a fab shop close to my house and getting them to build me a secure box out of 1/4 steel. I am going tomorrow to buy a old small safe for my hand guns but I was think bout the other also.

Take a second look at the Liberty Fatboy Jr. 45 minutes fire rating and large collector gun racks for lots of guns. It really is a good safe.

One of Liberty's big selling points is fire rating, is it a quality safe? well that depends upon what your looking for. If you own one that's fine, I will not bash anyone's choice of safes. Just do your homework before you plunk down your hard earned cash. The choice you make will be in your home for years and years.

I have small kids, too, and this is what I got from Wal-Mart, of all places. Best value and there is no way kids can get into this thing. The smaller safes are cheaper. The other thing is that burglars are not going to mess with this thing, either. Money no object, sure go spend $3500 to get something you would need TNT to pierce, but for the wallet, this is the best value I could find.
