A good friend was recently gifted two revolvers by an aging fried. We're trying to find dates of manufacture and possible values.
First is a Smith and Wesson .38 special with 4 inch taper barrel. Looks to be a pre-k frame. Serial number "C 355XX". Looks to be 80-85 percent condition. Old style long hammer. Long ampersand between the SMith and the Wesson.
Second gun is a High Standard .22 Sentinel with 6 inch barrel in 95% plus condition. Serial number 6469XX. Also says R 101 above that.
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The S&W sounds like a Military & Police (Pre-Model 10) made in the late
1940s or early 1950s. This is a K frame not a pre-K frame (never heard of a pre-K designation). Value would likely run $150-$250 in most areas.

Don't know the date on the HS but these don't seem to bring a lot of money. Good basic shooters.

Hi and thanks. I guess what I was thinking of was that they maybe didn't give them a model number back then. Typed "pre K" not thinking. Thanks!

High Standard would get $150 max in my area most likely unless one of the oddball colored anodozed aluminum frmed one. What is the finish on yours? I always liked the 9 shot design.

That is an early- to mid-1949 revolver, a .38 Military & Police (Postwar) Pre-Model 10. I have C57,xxx which lettered (from Roy Jinks) to Sept 1949. Values on these are increasing as more people discover how nice they are. I'd concur with thatguy's valuation but would not be surprised for people to offer something in the upper end of that range.
