Questions about Savage 487T Westpoint 22LR

My father-in-law gave me and my son an old 22LR rifle for Christmas. It's a Savage Westpoint 22LR model 487T semi-auto, with a tube below the barrel for loading. I know next to nothing about small caliber rifles ( I only own a 12ga) and have been trying to find some info about it. I have a scope to mount on today and plan to clean and shoot it this weekend.

Anyone know any details about these rifles? Date of manu, reliability, problems to look for, where to find spare parts and accessories, etc?
