I am going to buy a scope and LaRue mount from LaRue for my AR-15. I have it narrowed down to three scopes but my knowledge of optics is a little limited so I am asking for thoughts on the matter.

Trijicon 1.25-4X24 AccuPoint

Burris XTR Tactical Rifle Scope 1X4-24mm

Leupold Mark 4 1-3x14mm CQ/T

Of the three I would go with the Leupy...but personally I would go with an IOR with that budget, or better yet save a bit and get a Zeiss Conquest. :)

I like the Trijicon for the AR's, but you can't really go wrong with Leupold. Personal preference and application should be the deciding factor.

Scopes, like other optics, are purpose-driven. What are the reasons for placing the optics? Is this for CQB scenarios? General patrol scenarios? DMR scenarios? Or just to make tiny groups in paper?

What works best in any of these is going to be different as to weight and size, magnification, and even ocular size. Some of the scopes out here today cost literally thousands of dollars, and have reticles that require a Notebook PC to decipher and use.

Decide what you want to do, then ask the manufacturers in your price range what they recommend. After that, you can look at the choices, and pick your poison.:)
