What would be a good dual (triple?) purpose Hunting/disaster/(range plinker) scope for a DSA SA58 Carbine with a fixed stock, saw grip & DSA railed scope mount?

This rifle would be used for Hog and Deer in Texas and I have rarely had a shot over 100 yards. (Very wooded area). I also like to shoot steel targets. I guess Im looking for a "do it most" rifle scope combo for Southeast Texas.

Here is what I am thinking.

1. Trijicon 1.25-4x24 Accupoint (post, chevron)
2. Bushnell Elite 4200 1-4x22
3. Luepold 1.5-5 VX III German reticle, Illum.

I have a Leupold MK4 1.5-5x20 MR/T on another rifle. I really like this optic but it is exspensive and I really cant justify the price difference when compared to the above listed optics.

-The Trijicon has the advantage of not needing batteries and the Quicker on target (maybe less acurate) reticle. It is also a smaller package.

-The Bushnell 4200 has a price advantage but is large.

-The Leupold seems very solid and very clear. I do like the German reticle but prefer the MK4's Illum. SPR reticle.

So what do you guys think? Of the three what would you pick? If not one of these three what would you choose?

My choices, in order for you, are these:

Burris Signature Safari, 1.75-5x32mm:

Having the larger objective (32 over 20 or 25) gather more light at dusk and dawn, very important for your hunting use. I was going to recommend the Signature Select 1.5-6x40 or the Sightron SII 1.5-6x42, but is seems that both of these fine configuration scopes have been discontinued. What's a little more size and weight with an already large & heavy gun, when it could mean seeing that deer well enough for a shot at twilight or not seeing it? The larger objective also gives you more leeway on your sight alignment (larger exit pupil), albeit introducing some parallax error.

[P.S. Does anyone know, what the hello happened to the 1.5-6x40mm configuration? Is it dead for all time now or what? It's the perfect all purpose scope setup, for both hunting and emergency use. Now only ones I see are the extreme high dollar ones:: http://www.swfa.com/c-277-swarovski-professional-hunter-riflescopes.aspx and http://www.swfa.com/c-258-zeiss-victory-diavari-rifle-scopes.aspx]

Of your choices there, I like #3, then #1, then #2. But they're all pretty good choices, I think.

Sorry, this is not what you want to hear but I dont think a FAL is a very good platform for precision glass or battries...

I recomend a windage adjustable Para style rear sight with A2 apertures.

But I am an open sight grump:cuss:, and as many have reminded me, one man's lipstick on a pig is another man's prom date.;)

I do like the idea of the Burris Sig. Safari with the LRS fast plex Illum. ret. But Im looking for something that could be used in a CQB role or a pig less than 10feet from me.

I am leaning towards the Trijicon because it doesn't require batteries.

I like open sights on a M1A or AK47. I like optics on AR15s and FALs. I have no reason for this other than personal preference.

Are there any true 1x-4 or 5 optics that are not $1500? The Burris I looked at claims to be a true 1X (the XTR model) But at the 1X setting the edges were really blurry.

Check out the Accupoint 1.25-4x24 with crosshair reticle and illuminated center dot.

You can pick one up complete with Larue QD mount for $779 from Larue (it is a European reticle that Trijicon doesn't market in the states for some reason).

It has a thicker outer post, thin crosshair reticle and a tiny tritium/fiberoptic illuminated dot at the center.

Of course, my main reason for suggesting this is I haven't been able to get my hands on one yet and want to hear some firsthand experience; but on paper it looks like a pretty nice rig for the money.

How about the original SUIT sight? ;)

I love Trijion's illumination system, and have been intending to get one of the 3-9 Accupoints.

But if I can get one of the 1-4's for $360 right now, I'm in as well... any source on that?

Any Houston area Gander Mountan.

Well, my post is a little misleading on the price of the Trijicon. The Trijicon1.25-4x24 is $439.99 (still a good deal) and i have a $80 dollar rewards voucher from my Gander card.

The Trijicon would appear to make the most sense. I think anything that can beat it appreciably is probably going to cost a lot more money than you are apparently going to pay for the Accupoint.

I would also suggest the 3.5x TA11E ACOG, or pretty much any variable from IOR Valdada or the Leupold MR/T series, as well as the 1-4 or 2.5-10 Nightforces. But of course, all of these are probably going to cost more than $1000.
