How do you secure your HD gun?

I grew up with guns on a rack over my bed. My trusty LeFever 16ga with 2 shells on the shelf. My father kept a S&&W 12-2 in his sock drawer. Everything else was just kept in one closet or another.

Those days are gone. No kids, but guns are locked up except for my wife's Ruger revolver, which she hides when she goes out. I don't even keep a firearm on my side of the bed anymore. :what:

2 lock boxes with the finger tapped combo, one in the front of the house and one next to the bed.

Each has .40cal power and 2 mags.

be safe

Small safe in the bedroom. Locked during the day, open at night. Firearms loaded and cocked inside. Grandkids thoroughly trained in firearm safety.
Same here except grandson isn't trained yet but he's only a month old.

I keep a handgun and a rifle out for nighttime home defense. During the day, the handgun goes on me, and the rifle's magazine is removed and secured in a lock box next to the bed in my room (my wife and I sleep apart most of the time due to differing work and sleep habits.)

When I leave for work, I lock that room.

My daughter is six now, and has been educated in firearms safety and even in handling with a small-ish AirSoft pistol that she gets to call "hers", but it still stays locked up with the "real" guns.

I frequently have young grandchildren at my home, and I do not rely upon the education and admonitions made to them regarding not touching a gun if so encountered. I keep a GunVault secured into my dresser, a few feet from my bed. I easily fit my home defense handgun, plus the two that I alternate for concealed carry, with a few speed strips/extra magazine. This gives me relatively easy accessibility and a reasonable degree of security. When I am home alone, with no children in the house, I leave the door to the dresser and the door to the GunVault open for even faster access.

And for what it is worth, for home defense I want absolute reliability. I keep a S&W L frame 4-inch barrel 357mag revolver with Crimson Trace laser, loaded with jacketed hollow point self defense ammo.

I love kids and I trained my one and only, but as far as guns go I dread the day we have grandchildren. Until then my guns are stored as they have been all my life, available.

I highly recommend the V-line lock boxes. One fits nicely in our nightstand and holds an xdm loaded and ready but out of reach of our young kids. Working on gun-proofing the kids as well, but there's only so much you can do at 2 and 4.
