Is there such a thing as moderately priced quick detachable rings that will allow scopes to accurately return to their original setting? I know some of the European brands will, but they're more than I wish to spend.

I see ones from UTG, Burris, and Warne for under $50, just wondering if they're any good?

Anybody have any experience with these?

Of the brands you mention, the only one I've used is from Warne and I've used a lot of them. I use them on all my Encore and Contender rifles and on a 460 Weatherby Magnum.

Yes, they're good. You might have a change in zero on the first 2 or 3 shots after reattaching to a gun with heavy recoil but not with rifles up to 300 Winchester Magnum.

The only issue I've had with them is on some the aluminum recoil lugs have fallen out when the scope is removed. That isn't a big deal if you can find it but a bit inconvenient if you can't. For some reason, some are a little dimensionally off. The easy solution is to call Warne and they'll send you another or maybe several more.

I've used Warne also on muzzleloaders, slug guns and an AR. Since none of those were "precision" weapons to start with, if there was any change in zero after a "remove and replace", it was within expected accuracy anyway.

Yes, I've had that issue also. I'm pretty careful about the surface underneath the weapon when I remove or remount the scope so that if one of the lugs falls out, I can easily find it.

I have tried a couple of different brands but Warne are by far the best I have ever used. I have one set on a muzzleloader and another set on an Ithaca Deerslayer ll.

I've use Warne on several rifles with good success, to include my little REM MOD 7 in .350. Just make sure when mounting/remounting the scope you hold tight to the rear (the same way every time) when tightening down.

I've also got Steyr, Luepold, and several sets of Larue QD mounts, and the Warne's seem to hold there own right along with the more expensive options.

I have used the UTG 4 hole QD rings on my AR and they have worked great. I have 2 scopes that I swap back and forth with essentially a return to zero, not perfect but never off by more than 1/2 inch at 100 yards. Have used them on anything with recoil though.

I've used Leupold, Warne and A.R.M.S. #22 mounts and the all work fairly well at returning to zero.

Leupold: aren't split 50/50, the top snaps over the scope tube and the sharp edges instantly mar the scope's finish. Build quality is similar to cheaper rings like Weaver. Cross keys can and will fall out if removed.

Warne: are vertically split and can shift the scope while tightening but otherwise work very well and are built rock solid. Cross keys can and will fall out if removed.

A.R.M.S. #22: these are more expensive than the first two options but they are adjustable for rail slop and have the quickest release with just a 90 degree throw. There are no cross keys to fall out.

I've read some horrendous reviews of each of them, I've tossed the Leupolds, and I've kept the Warne and A.R.M.S. So in my mind, the choice is about $50 or about $135 for (relatively) inexpensive QR rings. I'm sure there are more out there but these I have experience with.

Hello,

The Burris XTRs are pretty popular items with our customers. They have excellent reviews and ratings from our customers for them. They a little bit more expensive than the $50 range but nothing ridiculous.

Thanks to all for their great input!

I was thinking in terms of mounting a scout scope on a Rossi lever action, and having the ability to remove it (or add it) quickly depending on conditions while hunting.

Will probably go with Warne. Lots of good reviews for it elsewhere also.

Leupold QD

Are the only ones I've used. I have them on a pre 64 270, Rem 700 300 RUM and a Rem 700 416 rem mag. All rifles have iron sites and I wanted a scope I could get off if something failed.

At the time I lived about 7 miles from the range. Once the rifles were zeroed in I would fire a 3 shot group, keep the target, take the scope off and go home. Next trip put the scope on when I got to the range, 3 shots in the same target, etc.
The zero moved slightly but not more than a quarter inch by estimate. By the third trip it became a tad difficult however one 9 shot group, an aggregate of three 3 shot groups that started out at right at 1 inch was about 1 3/8 "

These are hunting rifles and I was satisfied with that.
