Quick Dumb Nomenclature Q re Mausers

What is the correct name of the metal thing with the hole in it, apparently for arsenal stacking/security purposes, in the usual Mauser stock?

Tried looking it up, but since I didn't know the name... sorta like looking up the spelling for a word if you can't spell it in the first place...

It's usually about halfway between the grip and the butt.

The German name would be helpful, as well.

(Probably something like Mitteldesschtockensicherholenfurdasarsenalkeepin, no? )

If this is the piece I'm thinking of (the round metal washer), it's a "bolt disassembly disc", that lets you compress the spring in the bolt so you can disassemble or reassemble the bolt. Here's a page showing how it's used: http://www.surplusrifle.com/mauser98gew/boltdisassembly/index.asp

I used to work with a German machinist and I once asked him what FLAK actually stood for, and that's what he told me.

I said, "No wonder you guys lost the war. By the time the spotters reported to HQ that they should get the Flugzuegabwherkanonen ready, the bombers had already dumped their loads and were on the way back to England."

He laughed like h3ll over that one. "Ach, you Americans," he said.

"Eefen you guys call id FLAK now," he added.

How I hated acronyms until then.
