I have an opportunity to buy a Olympic AR, with a Jewell trigger, flat top, target barrel, Nikon scope, bsa red dot, tac light, sling, 2k in 223 rounds, 1 90rd drum, 4 30 round mags, an aftermarket flash suppressor, and a hard rifle case. Guy is hard up for money and is letting it go for 600 dollars. I would be buying this sight unseen, but the guy needs money for Christmas presents for his family and takes good care of his weapons. I know that Olympic isn't a very good AR rifle, but in this instance I don't see how I can lose with all of the accessory's.

I really just seeing if this is something you guys would think of as a great deal? On a side note, are Olympics only 223, or do they have 223/5.56 versions as well, not that it really matters as we usually only shoot 223 anyways.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated as I don't have a whole of money to be throwing around these days myself, but this just sounds to good to be true just because of the accessory's.

It's not a bad deal. Don't overinflate the accessories. Just using a measuring stick, but it would take months to sell them off, accessories are valued at less than half of retail once used. Most FFL's don't want them because they don't move. They take them to gun shows and dump them for what they can get.

If this was a Bushmaster, Rock River, Spikes, etc I doubt seriously he'd have any problem moving just the gun for $600, but since it's an Olympic, all the goodies are necessary to spice the deal up.

Sight unseen is usually a indicator the deal is less than what it's said to be.

do it! you can part it out if gun quality is less than you desire (gunbroker). every part is worth something. or--you will have a shooter and ammo for awhile. only ? is--is it a legit deal?? do you know the seller???

Tirod is spot on. If the accessories are ok I would buy it for them, but not the gun. You could not give me an Oly.

Nothing wrong with a base Oly.... they're as good as any other out there. Where they get you is the poor quality barrels they put on them and lack of frills for the base model.... but so what... most guys trash a lot of the OEM stuff to begin with to "customize" the rifle to their tastes.

But they rock and roll just fine. I've had several of them and shot the crap out of them with no issues.

These days I just build my own

jibbs,I know that OLYs are bottom tier ARs but at that price I could learn to enjoy plinking with one at the range.I would buy it in a NY minute.tom.

Personally I would buy the package if there is a good chance I thought I could flip it and turn a profit with some patience.

Yes, that is a deal. 2k rounds of .223, assuming they aren't reloads, are easily going to be worth $400 - even the cheap Russian stuff.

At that point, you've still got the Nikon scope and the Jewel trigger, not to mention an entire AR15. Olympic may not be the best ARs ever built; but I'm betting you can still make a profit on it if you decide you don't like it.

Not to mention that you could probably make the Oly "chart-worthy" fairly easily by selling off 1k of ammo and the cheap accessories and upgrading the parts on the Oly.

Sorry to say that this is just incorrect. Oly is almost as bottom of the barrel as you can get. Only Hesse ranks lower.

There have been many horror stories about Oly from dealers and individuals alike.

Thanks guys for the reply's. Its a deal my cousin came across from a guy who is in desperate need of cash, like yesterday. Good news is I think it was re barreled so hopefully it isn't a stock one. I told him I would buy it, prolly keep the ammo, drum, and most of the mags and end up selling the rest. My bro always wanted an AR so it might just go to him like 400 and tell him hes getting a deal on a X-Mas present. Just like Barholomew said, if the gun isn't what he hoped it was, he can sell off everything else and still put him into a better AR. I just wanted to make sure it was a deal weighted on my side.

i would buy it, keep the ammo, and what other odds and ins you wanted and then i would sell the rifle and stuff that you didn't want to keep. heck keep the ammo, and turn around and sell the rifle for $600 or more to someone else and then you got 2k worth of free ammo, and then you have a profit too. I would do it.
