Just saw an ak on impactguns and was thinking of puting it on layaway. One question though, there are two (I think WASR 10s), one has a 5 round mag and one has a 30 rd mag. If I buy the 5 rd mag, will the 30 rder fit in the magwell or is this some type of ploy to sell these to states that ban hi cap magazines?

The 5rd mag WASR is how all WASRs start out when they're imported. They won't take a 30rd mag without making the mag well opening larger. This is what Century normally does before selling them. If you're handy with a Dremel, you can do this yourself and make the 5rd version take 30rd mags.

Can you give me ahint on how this is done? Im somewhat of a handyman.

I've never done it myself, but you could probably just buy a 30rd magazine, measure the width across the top feed lips, then measure the opening of the current mag well and trim evenly on each side until the width matches that of your 30rd mag. From my understanding, the 5rd mags are the same length front-to-back as the 30s, just not as wide.

I'm going to piggyback here since I also have an AK question. Does anyone know of a source for AK bolts w/ an upswept handle ala Galil? I already googled it and had no luck, but I thought somebody on here may have had the same tacti-cool idea, and already have a source
I remember seeing clamp on cocking knob kits. That was two years ago though. I don't think they fit all the AK patterns either.

The single-stack WASR's that come with only 5 or 10 rd magazines are not a ploy for ban states, but rather to comply with a pesky federal law called 922(r). Look that up - there are dozens of threads on it. And don't go modifying your WASR to take AK mags until you do read up on 922(r).

wouldn't modifying a WASR to take standard AK mags be fine as long as the mags used were american made??

No I do not think that will make you 922r compliant. requires a min number of US made parts.

a standard AK has 16 of the 20 parts. 922 says you may use NO MORE than 10 FOREIGN parts. so this means you must replace 6 foreign parts with US parts, or REMOVE those parts.

almost all WASR's single or double stack have a tapco trigger group , that constitutes 3 pieces. a US made Magazine would constitute 3 pieces. safely putting you at 10 foreign parts

also i believe all WASR's come with a US made pistol grip, which would count as 1 more US part. and a US made muzzle break would be easy and cheap to ensure your safe.
( check the side of the pistol grip for a C molded in the plastic. this is Century Arms way of stamping the domestic made grips i believe)

A WASR comes with:

Tapco G2 ( 3 US parts )
Gas piston ( 1 US part )
Pistol grip ( 1 US part )

and some come with a US made muzzle brake ( some WASRs have no muzzle device or a welded muzzle nut ).

Does it say that the five round guns are single stack guns? I have seen five round double stack AK mags. Is thare a big price diference? I bought two single stack guns a few years ago for $175 each, they came with a 5 and a 10 round mag. It was a good deal and I like the guns a lot.
