I wanted to ask this of you guys, since you all seem to know just about everything. Anyways I ordered 500 Hornady 32 ACP 311 Diameter 71 Grain Full Metal Jacket under the assurance that I could load it into 32 SW long brass. I will be picking up all the books and reloading gear that I purchased from midway and plan on reading and building a table for a week or so be for i start reloading. Also I have been looking around for load data for the 71 grain 32 acp and havn't had much luck.

Well, 311" jacketed auto-pistol bullets wouldn't be my first choice for the 32 S&W Long revolver.

First, they are under-size for the .312" bore & chamber throats of the .32 S&W Long revolver. And being jacketed, they are too hard to bump up to fit like a soft lead bullet would do.

You may get loose case-neck tension with a die expander plug intended for .312 bullets.

And they don't have a cannelure in the bullet so you can crimp them for use in a revolver.

I guess if I had to do it, I would use more common .32 S&W L data for the 85 grain jacketed bullets.
At least you can't get in too much trouble.

Recently I've been handloading .32 Long using Berry's .32 plated wadcutters seated flat and roll crimped. I've had good luck with them. Berry's plated WC is a good bullet.

If things go south on this load combination, please PM me for the sale of your remaining 71 gr. FMJ bullets. I can use them for my .32acp. Thanks in advance Bill.

I've used Remington 71 grain 32 cal. FMJ/RN in 32 S&W Long in S&W Model 31-1 and several Colt Police Positive and Police Positive Special revolvers and it seams to be OK, not great. It worked better in over powered 32 Magnums I was shooting in a 327 magnum revolver. I find it necessary to taper crimp using a 32 Auto crimp die.
