i have read that how long the sabot stays with the bullet after it leaves the barrel affects the accuracy. this makes a lot of sense to me. has anyone thought about this? does anyone know of a way to help speed up the seperation process? i was thinking about dry silicone spray or maybe spray moly lube. moly lube may increase the size slightly though, making the bullet/sabot comination fit tighter in the bore.

I don't know what effect lube would have. Maybe a good experiment, and report back to us. I can tell you this - I have tried both 4 petal sabots, and some of the new 2 petal ones for ease of loading (I'm 70) On the 50yd range, I have found my red sabots (Hornady HSST) about 30 Yds down range, and the 4 petal sabots (Shockwave) about 15 to 20 Yds down range. Seems the petals on the 2s are stiffer, and come off later, if this is any help. Both were carrying 250g spire points. Accuracy was close to the same, using fiber-optic sights - 4 holes in a 3" bullseye.

TC used that reasoning when they invented these 3 piece Break-O-Way sabots.

I do know that the power check cups on PowerBelt bullets have a horrible effect on accuracy if they don't come off of the bullet shortly after leaving the muzzle - those I always loosen up and lube to make sure they come off real easy.

Full sabots have never caused me any problems, and I usually find them 15 yards or less from the muzzle...................but I don't shoot the hot 150gr powder loads and that will make a difference.
