Last year I bought a pepper 10/22 and put a cheapo red dot on it to use when I teach newbies:

It's a ridiculously fun gun but I had three major criticisms of it:

1) The trigger was simply terrible, heavy and creepy
2) The bolt-hold open required a lot of manual dexterity and newbies just hated it.
3) The stock never fit me particularly well... too short.

So, finally I worked up the energy to fix it up.

To fix the first two problems I bought the hornet products trigger group. Now the trigger is really light and crisp. This also fixed the bolt hold open and inconvenient mag release problems.

To fix the remaining problem I bought the tapco fusion stock. I considered the cristie enterprises and Nordic AR22 but the tapco was cheap and light (two strong plusses in my book).

Installation of the Fusion stock was relatively simple with two small caveats. It comes with two reciever extensions, one straight and one angled. I mistakenly put in angled one and had a H*** of a time trying to remove it... friction is a pain. The final problem was installing the railed upper handguard. The torque from a hand screw driver was enough to crack it. I sent an email to Tapco customer service and I'll let y'all know how that goes.

I'm pretty pleased... but I think the newbies are going to love it.

*Edited to add* Those hotlips magazines only run well with one brand of ammo... federal automatch... but with that stuff they run and run and run.

Customization is just about the best thing the 10/22 has going for it other then being a solid great gun.

I am picking one up this weekend and will be excited to see what it looks like a few years down the line.

Nice little 10/22 you've got there. I bought a 10/22 for the specific reason that they are easy to accessorize. My son bought a cool camo skeleton stock for his, and loves it.

My hotlips mags run best with hyper velociy rounds. Seems like the extra bit of recoil helps strip the rounds, so they feed just fine.

My 10/22 loves CCI mini-mags. It works pretty well with anything now that I've installed a Volqhartsen extractor but if I had to use it for something serious...
Well, I keep a couple mags loaded with mini-mags in case I have to use it for that. ;)

I went a little overboard customizing my 10/22.... :D

Well I picked up my 10/22 this weekend - nothing special standard no bells no whistles. Great little shooter and my first .22

Man its fun shooting on the cheap.

PTK, nice!

How much would a setup like that run? The SBR tax stamp is $5, yes? Is the suppressor tax stamp $5 or $200?

I put this together for my 11 year old son last weekend. Power Custom internals. Still need to find the matching bipod.
