A two-month investigation has resulted in the arrests of 62 suspected human smugglers, 528 illegal immigrants and millions of dollars in cash and real estate, authorities said Wednesday.

Phoenix Police Chief Jack Harris said the multi-agency task force seized 11 weapons, 62 vehicles, six real estate locations valued at $1.7 million, $4.8 million in cash, five kilograms of cocaine and about three pounds of marijuana.

The operation focused on multiple "coyote groups" of varying sizes, including some "mom and pop" organizations that dabble in both illegal drugs and immigrant smuggling, said Glen Gardner, commander of the drug enforcement bureau for Phoenix police, who supervised a portion of the financial investigation.

In August, a state law went into effect making human and drug smuggling a felony in Arizona, the busiest illegal entry point along the U.S.-Mexico border. Smuggling already was a federal felony.

Republican legislators have proposed a tough anti-immigrant package for Arizona.

The proposed elements include making illegal immigrants' presence in Arizona a crime under the state's trespassing law, money for radar to spot illegal border-crossers, new dollars for law enforcement, sanctions against employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants and funding to deploy additional National Guard troops along the border.

Yea they were in Charlotte, N.C a few weeks ago arresting executives and employees for conspiring to transport, harbor and encourage illegal workers to reside in the United States for commercial advantage and private financial gain.

WASHINGTON -- Immigration agents arrested seven executives and hundreds of employees of a manufacturer of crates and pallets Wednesday as part of a crackdown on employers of illegal workers. Authorities raided offices and plants of IFCO Systems in at least nine states, the culmination of a yearlong criminal investigation, law enforcement officials said.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested seven current and former IFCO Systems managers on charges they conspired to transport, harbor and encourage illegal workers to reside in the United States for commercial advantage and private financial gain, said Glenn Suddaby, the chief federal prosecutor in Albany, N.Y., where some arrests were made. ICE spokeswoman Jamie Zuieback confirmed an unspecified number of raids and arrests, but declined to provide additional details because the investigation was continuing. One official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the arrests were in the hundreds.

Raids took place at several locations in upstate New York and in Biglerville, Pa.; Charlotte, N.C.; Cincinnati; Houston; Indianapolis; Phoenix; Richmond, Va.; and Westborough, Mass.

Last week, operators of three restaurants in Baltimore pleaded guilty to similar immigration charges, and nine people affiliated with two temporary employment agencies that do business in New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania were charged in a $5.3 million scheme involving the employment and harboring of illegal aliens.

Thank goodness there were illegal drugs involved. Their property now belongs to the US govenment without the hassle of due process.
Interesting to see people grateful for the witholding of due process. Due process suspended by a government that has itself promoted and allowed, is complicit in, a virtual smorgasboard for people, dope and arms smugglers, dealers and other criminals. Not to mention "terrorists".
