Went to the Raleigh Gun Show yesterday. Was supposed to open at 9:00 a.m. I got there at 8:40 and there was approximately 125 people in line in 12degree weather. They had just opened the doors and were letting people in early. Left at 11:00 and there was 250 people in line and it was so crowded in the building it was hard to get up and down most of the aisles.

Some of the BIG dealers in the area missed the show as they went to the SHOT show.

Quite a bit of the activity was around the reloading booths and of course the ammo sellers. At times I saw 20+ people waiting in line to purchase reloading supplies.

Some of the ammo dealers were gouging, ie. 27.95 for Hornady Leverevolution 30-30. Paid 20.00 (no tax) at another table, which is a good price here. Selling a lot of pistols, some black rifles, and very few classic rifles sold.

Good crowd in cold weather.

I will echo the "missing vendor" issue. One large vendor who didn't show up was Ed's Guns, which was a shame.

Fortunately, there were many, many other vendors who took their place. We're talking Airsoft, Beef Jerkey, ShamWow (and a ShamWow competitor, even!), women's bathingsuits and a whole wall full of framed artwork. None of these things belong in a gun and knife show.

There was ONE vendor with a decent pistol selection. Everyone else had miscellaneous junk and a couple of pistols.

Perhaps next time the organizers of the show will consult an industry calendar and make sure they don't collide with the largest firearms exposition of the year.

Man, I had to work day shift all weekend and I missed out on the Raleigh Gun Show. I really needed a Shamwow, some beef jerkey, some hot sauce, and of course, a Nazi flag!

Seriously though, glad to hear it was a good turn out, sorry there were not more gun related vendors. Perhaps next time.

Went today...

... I posted my observations in another thread, but I've copied/edited them here.

The line was also about 150 people long. Not as cold as Saturday, but it was drizzly, windy and generally nasty.

Here are some of the gems I've saw at the show today, I wonder how many kilos of crack these idiots must have smoked when I see some of the prices. Especially the SKS prices. They have really gotten out of wack, much more so than ARs. Did you guys see the bubba-ed SKS with green stocks for $800? Or worse, the two bone-stock Russian examples for $1,000 each  !!! I was stunned. Maybe they were autographed by Nikita Khrushchev or something. Then there were the standard Russian Mosin M91/30s for $200, about $120 overpriced. I saw a very nice used stainless 2.5" Taurus 66 357 Mag that I might have purchased had it been no more than about $250, but it was $425 freakin' dollars ... you can find a S&W 66 for that if you look hard enough.

On the plus side, there was a metric buttload of EBRs for sale, particularly ARs. And most of the prices weren't too bad either. I saw some NIB S&W Sigmas for $179-200. A ruger P345 for $379 (another THR member saw a NIB P95 for $300). I also saw a NIB Ruger GP100 4" blued 38 Special for $399 and a S&W 19-3 4" for $350 (though it was a little rough with some endshake). A 3" S&W Model 64 for $375 was was a decent price, I thought about offering $325 cash for it but it sold before I returned. Oh well. There were some decent mag prices too, like a 30 round Tapco for an SKS for $21. I picked up some primers and lead bullets for less than I could get locally, so it wasn't a bad trip at all. Eating lunch at P.F. Changs certainly helped :D .

Fortunately, there were many, many other vendors who took their place. We're talking Airsoft, Beef Jerkey, ShamWow (and a ShamWow competitor, even!), women's bathingsuits and a whole wall full of framed artwork. None of these things belong in a gun and knife show.

Kinda surreal, wasn't it?
