... so I'll get right to 'em. :)

1) Does the UltiMak rail/gas tube fit on a VEPR II or K?

2) What are all the different types of folding stocks that can be put on a SAR-1/WASR-10? All the companies, styles, options, and so on ad nauseum.

3) Is the lower foregrip supposed to have a rounded "belly" near the bottom of the sides, or is it just supposed to be flat? My SAR-1 has the "belly," but no other AK (barring other SAR-1s) I've ever handled or recall seeing has this.

4) How difficult is it to modify an AR pistol grip (whether a standard grip or something fancy, such as one by Hogue) to fit an AK? Who makes aftermarket pistol grips for AKs other than Ace Ltd., anyway?

5) Will a PSO-1 Russian military scope, designed for the side rail mount, fit a SAR-1/WASR-10? How is the quality on them, anyway?

6) Has anyone tried this: (It's the fourth item down the page)

Gas Block Clamp-On Front Sight

7) What about the AK to AR stock adapter? (OEF_VET, IIRC, has one) How sturdy is it?

8) Has anyone used or seen Bushmaster's AK Adjustable Stock Extension?

9) Do Recoil Buffers actually work? Are they worth it?

10) Will regular SAR-1/WASR-10 parts work in a ROMAK-3 PSL, or does it take a bunch of redesigned, resized parts a la the AK-74?

Oy. I've had those building up for quite a while now. Good to get 'em all off my chest all at once... I'm sure I'll have more as soon as I can remember. :uhoh:

1. Yes.
2. Side folding, and under-folding. Can't name the companies offhand but those two are it.

3. Depending on the country the AK comes from whether it has a belly or not. My SAR-1 had it, I've shot real Russian-made full auto AKs with a belly on the foregrip, and a couple others, but it varies from country to country.

4. The Ergo Grip fits the AK (they make an AK model) and several other are out there to improve on the basic AK grip.

5. Yes, the PSO-1 will fit a SAR-1 as will the Kobra. Quality is pretty decent but it's big for what it does, and they make an AK-specific model.
6. No, I haven't but the Krebs Custom Guns model is supposed to work better.
7 and 8. : No idea.

9. Never did much for me.

10. The Romak-3 doesn't use AK parts from what I've seen, most are specific to the rifle.

Hey, let me tack on my own:

The sights of the AK are calibrated for what sort of ammo?

I note that my SAR-1 likes Wolf ammo just fine, but I have yet to shoot it at longer ranges and keep careful track of loads and bullet drop, etc. Are the sights calibrated for something close to Wolf's 122 gr ammo? They seem to be 'on', but I dunno for sure.

Thanks,
Mike

5.Yes it fits. The PSO isnt as well polished as most commercial market scopes. However its tough as nails and can be removed and replaced without loosing zero. Its alittle rough around the edges, but its a very fine optic.

9.I know -alot- of folks who buy them and then report it makes the recoil WORSE, because it stops the bolt short. Just change the recoil spring out for a stiffer one, its what a friend of mine did and it worked.

My Saiga 16" does best with the 154 grain stuff. They seem to like the heavier loads. My best group thusfar is 1.5", with the 154 wolf stuff and my best with the 122 FMJ stuff is like around 2"

The sights of the AK are calibrated for what sort of ammo?

Rifles in 7.62x39 have sights calibrated for M43 Type PS Ball. This is a 123 grain FMJBT with a steel and lead core with a MV of ~2300 FPS.

Sights on 5.45x39 rifles are calibrated for the Russian military load, the specific ballistics of which I disremember.

I have no idea what the sights on 5.56mm AKs are calibrated for.

9) Do Recoil Buffers actually work? Are they worth it?
I had a personal report from one Russian army officer, who did extensive testing of the recoil buffer in his military-issue, selective-fire AK-74

he reported that:
* gain in single-shot accuracy was negligible;
* gain in full-auto accuracy as also negligible
BUT:
* after the bursts, the sight-back-to-target time is much shorter WITH buffer
* and the service life of the stamped receiver (which usually wears out first) is greatly increased (probably by whole 50%, from typical 15 000 rounds)
