I must be retarded this morning. No matter how I search I can't bring up the threads I was reading about range bags last night.

Figured I'd go ahead and kick one off to get an idea of what to bring along. Just picked up a bag the other day, and so far this is what I've accumulated:

  • Multi-tool
  • Shooting glasses
  • Hearing protection (plugs and headphones)
  • Extra hearing protection
  • 2 Sharpies
  • Duct tape
  • Scotch Tape
  • Staple gun
  • Staples
  • Ziploc bag of clothes pins

This pretty much leaves the main compartment open for carrying targets, ammo and any extras for the day. The rest is permanent residence.

What have I forgot?

I would also add:

-bore light for checking barrel obstructions
-empty ziploc bag or other container for spent brass
-small bottle aerosol solvent/oil for gunked up guns
-bar magnet for easy pickup of steel casings (or lost gun parts!)
-shooting glasses with various tints for different lighting conditions
-any gun-specific tools you may need

Little set of gunsmith screwdrivers. set of small brass punches. Spray can of BreakFree IN A PLASTIC BAGGIE! Jointed .22 cal brass rod and some patches. small pair of needle nose.

Wow. I never knew going to a range would be so complicated and would need all that stuff. I must be spoiled here on the farm! I got a Midway USA bag a while back but its still in the plastic wrapper.

Staple gun
Tape
Leatherman
whatever tools i would need for gun im bringing for sights or strip ect.
magazines
oil
extra foam plugs
gun mat (i don't put my guns on the benches usually)

Thats about it i guess...

I'd throw a handful of those cheap 25 cent earplugs in there, just in case your main ones wander off, or you decide to take a friend.

maybe a small pad of paper and a pen if you feel like taking notes on anything.

a basic cleaning kit would be helpful too

yeah, same here, shooting in the back yard is nice, if i forget something its a quick stroll back to the house to grab it! plus its cheaper with no range fees.. (but in reality its probably more expensive because I go out and shoot more)

I have most of the mentioned above but I also have a pair of wooden chop sticks for checking pistols barrels if I suspect an obstruction.

I keep most of what has been mentioned in my bag...the chopstick idea is great!

The only thing I would add is a couple of band aids. Have had to pass them out multiple times for people with slide bites or other assorted nicks and cuts.

  • Pistol & Magazines
  • Holster & Magazine Pouch
  • Ammunition
  • Multitool (I carry this everywhere)
  • Eye & Ear Protection
  • Paper Plates (Yes, I'm cheap) :)

That's basically it. In my many years of shooting I haven't needed any extra equipment so far. Whatever gun I take is ready to go before I take it to the range as far as cleaning and upkeep are concerned. If by some fluke my gun goes out of service I call it a day, take it home and see what's up.

I would add a rod to run down the barrel in case a case or round won't extract and a broken shell extractor. Tools to adjust your sights.

If I'm shooting corrosive ammo I will bring a small bottle of water mixed with a little dish soap, a cleaning rod and some patches. Then a more thorough cleaning and oiling when I get home.

I also save old typing paper from my office (that was destined for the trashcan) and bring to the range along with some masking tape. When a silhouette target gets too hole-y I put a half sheet of paper over the center and now have a fresh target. My attempt at being 'green' I guess (and cheap).

And a bag or can to save brass.

I'm a bullseye shooter. I carry a range box, not a bag.

1. one or more guns
2. attached spotting scope
3. moon/demoon tool
4. magazines
5. Chapman tool kit
4. cheap cleaning kit (for emergencies)
5. pocket knife
6. ammunition
7. shooting glasses
8. Peltor hearing protectors
9. pen(s) for scoring
10. spring clamp to keep box open
11. hex key to remove recoil spring guide on wadcutter gun
12. GI toothbrush
13. Clenzoil for lubing .22 rounds

Small, basic first aid kit for getting pinched by something. Also, travel size Wet Wipes for wiping off lead before I can do a better job in the restroom.

Staples
Targets
Target dots
Spotting scope/mini tripod
Rifle rest
Hearing protection
Safety glasses
Lubricants
Multi-tool

Hand cleaner. AS i shoot Black powder. a Fishing tackle box usually goes pretty good for holding stuff. a rag also.

I bring eye and ear protection, a small bottle of oil and/or a small tube of Tetra Lube, Swiss Army knife (EDC, not in the bag), and sometimes sandbags and a benchrest. Sometimes masking tape to tape over holes in targets, and a sharpie.

And my iPhone running iSnipe (again, EDC, not in the bag). :D

wow i either feel under prepaired or over prepaired im not sure which
i usualy have my multitool and a small flashlight on my person so those arent in the range bag along with a SAK just in case i need a screwdriver and pliers at the same time

in the bag
spare magazines for whatever im shooting
ammunition
eyes and ears enough for 4 people (i usualy shoot with friends)
a pack of those cheap disposable orange ear plugs just in case
small and large shoot n see targets
borelight attatchment for my maglite
bore laser for sighting in
a few clothespins
duct tape
staple guns (gun type and hammer type)
staples
a marker
a breakdown cleaning rod
OTIS cleaning kit
a set of playing cards for impromptue targets

not all of that goes with me everytime i too just go to the back yard most of the time the only time i go to the range is when i shoot anything beyond 100 yards

I think you guys hit pretty much everything. One thing that I always bring is a bottle of cold water, because I get thirsty. I also bring some granola bars or other snacks.

Seems like you all covered just about everything. I bring a pocket monocular so i can actually see what I shot at 25 yards. At my age, ye olde eyes, even with glasses, can't resolve quarter inch holes at this distance. The other day, I was shooting next to this 14 year old kid firing a model 60 50 yards downrange, bam bam bam bam about as fast as you can say it and he was clustering hits in like 3" groups. At that distance any POA I have through my open sights is just a blur.

+2 on the snax, couple Snickers bars, water and beef jerky.
BTW I keep the band aids in my wallet.

Spare batteries for red dot
Some push in thumb tacks
Baggies for empty brass
Ty Wraps
