Personally, going to the range is a bit of a production. I run through a check-list of things I might want: target supports & stands, chronograph & tripod, cooler (drinks & perhaps eats), firearms & ammunition, eyes & ears (my own and spares), clay & launcher, shot timer, pistol rest, gun cleaning supplies, and finally, range bag.

My range bag carries a trauma kit and other first aid supplies, eye wash, wet wipes and tissues, hand warmers, trash bags and ziplocs, spiral notebook and pens, stapler and paper targets, masking tape, earplugs, some tools, magazines and loading aids, holsters, flashlight.

The last two trips to the range prompt the addition of tools for clearing a squib, Neosporin (I thought I had some, but no), and aerosol bandage and super glue.

What do you keep in your range bag?

(Edit) Oh, and based on recent reading here, clean underwear. :)

Pretty simple, really. Guns and ammo, my shooting glasses, earmuffs (both foamies and mickey mouse ears, I like to use double), my cleaning kit, gloves, and magazines.

Depends whats going on....but as a general rule:

Guns and ammo
Eye and eye pro
Magazines (preloaded), mag holders/pouches, shotgun shell caddies, holster, sling etc
Cut down field cleaning kit
Small tool set
Some firearm spare parts
Spotting Scope
Target patches, stick on targets, masking tape etc
Stapler
Bug spray, suncream
wet weather clothing
water bottle

same and add a set of ears-buds to be able to double up with if needed. and an extra set of eye's & ears. can of bug spray is seasonal. as is a can of sunblock. crono and bench rest stuf lives in a seperate Sears tool bag. BP has a dedicated bag also.

For a pistol match:

Gun, ammo, mags, eyes, ears, holster, mag carrier

For rifle: Add targets, target clips, tape, subtract pistol specific stuff

Outside the bag for rifle: Rest, sometimes chrono. Outside the bag for pistol: vest, belt.

Extra stuff in the bag no matter what kind of shooting I'm doing: Allen key set, screwdriver, sight adjustment tools, notebook/pen, copies of Form 1's, hand warmers (winter only), spent brass ziploc bag. I've been meaning to add a first aid kit since hitting my hand on a piece of glass at a match earlier this year.

For shotguns - I have a bag that contains extra ear plugs, a Gerber multi-tool, bug spray, eyes and ears, extra lube syringe, bandana/rag. I'll add ammo and other stuff as necessary.

For metallic, I also have a tote box with tripod, spotting scope, paper targets, bench rest bags, etc........

Let's see...

In the two front compartments, I have 3 sets of ears (1 good set of Peltors for myself, two sets of cheap GuideGear electronic muffs for guests), 3 sets of eyes, and two packs of foam plugs.

On the one side is a first-aid kit... bandages, burn cream, triple anti-biotic, some aspirin, gauze, tape, alcohol prep pads, some other misc. stuff

The other side contains a screwdriver kit, pliers, a small cleaning kit, cleaning patches, .22 and .30 stuck case removers, 3-piece steel cleaning rod (from an M14 kit), M16 front sight post tool, some other little misc. parts/tools.

The back compartment has all my targets (mostly Caldwell self-stick targets, but also some plain paper bullseye and sight-in targets), staple gun, pack of staples, and some marker pens.

The main compartment holds boxes of ammo, magazines, magazine loaders, spotting scope, couple of small towels, roll of duct tape, couple pairs of gloves...

This is the big MidwayUSA range bag, and yeah - it weighs about 40lbs. once all loaded up. Always seems to be lighter coming home, though... :D

My "range bag" is a very old TWA freebie carry-on bag.
It contains:

In the side pocket:
Range permission slip for me to be there.
Keys to another 600 yard range I use.
Targets in loose-lief folder.
Target pasters.
An empty zipper money bag from the bank for collecting empty brass.
Another one with small tools in it. (Sight, S&W side-plate, and Colt SAA screwdrivers, brass punch, brass hammer, etc) If I run out of room for empty brass in the first bank bag, I can dump the tools in the TWA bag and use it too.

In the TWA bag itself:
Dillon electronic ear-muffs.
A roll of masking tape for sticking targets up.
Black Magic-Marker for marking bullet holes.
Touch-up blue pen for blackening shiny sights.
A .45 ACP moon clip de-mooner.
An old stale candy bar, just in case.

On top of that goes whatever handguns & ammo I'm taking with me that day.

My ears, my eyes, extra ears, extra eyes, staple gun, staples, multi tool (screwdrivers, alen wrenches), flashlight, magazines, speed loaders, shoot 'n see stickers, business card, gloves, ammo, pistols. Ammo and pistols dont go in until I leave for the range.

Although I have a couple nice range bags that friends bought for me, my rifle range is only 300 yards away, so I just use a plastic tool box for ear muffs, ammo, magazines, tools, etc.
I also have a plastic case for the spotting scope and a nice padded case for extra handguns.

eye and ear protection, ammo, guns, tool set, field cleaning kit, tape, printer paper for hand made targets, and some spare parts. my range is my backyard so just enough to get me going.

I have 2 bags. One for shotgun\clays shooting and 1 bag for pistol shooting. Each bag has it's own gear for each type of shooting.

The only thing that needs to be loaded in the bag is ammo and pistols. The shotgun bag just needs ammo.

Both bags have ear & eye protection, various small tools, oil, cleaning rod, led light and some gum and hard candy, and oh yeah, a lighter.

The only thing I have to switch from bag to bag is my club membership card. If I forget it, no big deal. {everybody knows me anyway}

After trying to shoot everything out of one bag and forgetting things too many times, this just seemed to be the best way to for me.

That must be an interesting range you go to.:D

I haven't seen anyone mention a cell phone.

A friend made me get a cell phone for emergencies.
Trouble is I hardly ever carry it and mostly forget it when I go to the range.

The cell phone kinda goes without saying, no? Mine doesn't work reliably at the range--there's a land line for emergencies.

Entertaining thread. Keep it coming.
