Looking through "BagMaster" cataloge.........Need a range bag, not sure which one to get?
Just started IDPA this year.
Any recomendation!

Thanks.

I-Shot, I got the ProShooters Range bag and it holds everything I need and extras for when I take another person who hasn't been a shooter.

Well made

I-Shot

Before I-Shot, I had a Dillion Blue Range Bag and it wasn't enough for when me and my GF would go, and even less when we bring her daughter.
I would take 2 bags, 1 for ammo, 1 for firearms.
Good Luck

John

Not into IDPA but ..... BAG????

hehehe ... long since been using LARGE cardboard box!:p

Containing ... MTM rifle rest thingie .. MTM pistol rest ''thingie'' ...... targets, case catcher for my auto's ..... stapler ...... range tool box ........ target patches (blk and whi - I am MEAN with my targets!) ...... ear defenders (various) ...... spare magazines ...... orange sticky spots ...... spotting scopes (2).......... Chrony and small tripod ... and other various ''bitz'' !!:D

Over and above that is two ammo boxes ... usually stuffed with all they will hold ..... and finally of course ... guns .. lots of guns!

BAG tho ??? .... naw ... they don't make one big enough!!!

Sorry .. hardly much help!

I have the Bagmaster Pro-Shooter's Bag Large Deluxe. Let me tell you that it will carry a buttload of stuff, and has handy little dividers inside.

My two gripes:

1) It only had one shoulder strap. This may have been due to the reseller losing it or other such problem.
2) Its size lends to packing it to the point where you can barely carry it. That's really my fault, and the bag shows no signs of wear even affer carrying 1500 rounds of .223 in it at one point, along with all the other crap I carry to the range.

Further to my flippant decription above re my cardboard box!! Which is fact.

Reason I gave up using a bag was mostly because of the way items get crowded together .. difficult keeping some things from being crushed, squashed, even damaged .... so, the box became the de facto MO!

I picked up the bagmaster small pro shooters bag and also a bagmaster mini range bag. The small bag can carry two handguns in the side pockets, and it's large enough to carry big guns like desert eagles and scoped handguns. It has a plastic insert for the bottom, and two dividers. I can carry quite a bit in this 'little' bag. 2 guns, ammo, ears, eyes, mags and tools, accessories, etc. it can get pretty heavy! I've had it for at least 6 years, and it shows no wear. Very well made. I got the mini range bag to carry two extra guns and their mags. Works well. (Kinda wish the mini bag was a touch bigger so I could get some ammo and ear muffs into it. Can't really take only it to the range cause of that. A

Now, I am looking for a larger bag, mainly for those Big Days at the range when I take 6-8 handguns. But, that monster would be uber heavy I bet...

I-Shots are made in Woodbridge VA, about 20 mins south on I95 from Washington DC. Take a look at the website, you can get some customizing done with them too.

I have a bag made by Competitive Eddge Dynamics, www.cedhk.com

It is padded inside and out and very sturdy. I usually take up to 4 handgunds and @800 rounds of ammo, extra mags, ear protection, packet of targets, etc. and it all fits in the bag. Reasonably piced at $69.95, I think, though it is a little more that the comparable-size I-Shot bag (I have not compared the 2 side by side, so I can't compare the quality).

I have the Bagmaster Pro Deluxe, size unknown. Quality is firstrate and it's lasted me a good while without showing any signs of wear. I'm impressed with that.

The downside is that I'm now outgrowing the bag. Actually, I was outgrowing it the day I got it in the mail.

The biggest problem is a complete lack of any way to organize the bag. There are no magazine loops and no end pockets to hold your timer or muffs. Aside from the two plastic panels dividing the interior, you have no way to separate your gear. Would I buy it again? No.

It's a great bag for a beginner that doesn't have a lot of stuff, or someone that carries that stuff in another container. Using it strictly for shooting in a competition, you can't go wrong as it keeps all of your ammo, mags, eye/ears neat and tidy. All I wish is that it had two padded end pockets large enough to hold a pair of Dillon E-muffs and my Pact timer. Cleaning supplies and such can go in another bag.

There are several large bags on the market that are well-divided and hold just about everything. I'm looking.....

VaughnT:

I'm not sure which bag you have, but there are other bags that might work better for you.

The Tournament Models, both Model 1(TM1) and Model 2(TM2), have padded end pockets for timers and carrying loops for outside muff carry. TM1 comes with a stage bag and has two inside pockets in the main compartment suitable for glasses, etc. TM2 features drop-in carry for two handguns in the main compartment with 8 mag holders built in.

Good luck, and shoot straight.

OK, I'm not going to loose as many cool point as P95Carry has on this topic, but I stand to loose a few.

I went to Home Depot and bought a large mouth tool bag. It certainly cost less than others. It is big, canvas, and sturdy as all get out.

It looks a lot like this, only it's blue and it's filled with gun stuff mostly and only a couple of tools. :)

p.s. - I wouldn't buy it from Home Depot again though. They are on my black list. :(

MaterD,

What happened with Home Depot? Why are they on your black list?

P95,

Sounds like you need some hand trucks and a big chest! :) (I know the feeling...)

One thing that I forgot to mention-

Bagmaster products are made in sunny St. Louis, MO, and come with a lifetime guarantee.

Yup, I-SHOT is the way to go, I got me one and it's awesome.
BTW, you can take what Mr. Hansen says to the bank!!

Daughter bought me a "Gatemouth" tool bag from Sears for Christmas.....I took it to range the other day, had 22 pistol and 2 bricks of ammo for it, 38 snub with 150 rounds, eyes, ears, rags, cleaning stuff, targets........had a little room to spare...not bad for about 20 bucks....

<--- cheapskate

Got mine at a garage sale. I think it was a doctor's bag in a previous life. Wide-mouthed stiff leather valise. Really cool, and a conversation piece too.

I use my old 'Tommy Hilfigger' duffle bag. My father-in-law uses an old bowling bag. Never really saw a reason to get a range bag that really is a "Range Bag" when I have plenty of bags at home that will work just as well. FWIW.

I've been using the I-Shot Mini Range bag for IPSC matches and its been great. Very top quality product. I like the smaller bag because I holds two pistols, ten magazines, 200rds ammo, ears & eyes and a few other neccessary items without being overly large to carry around. For outdoor IPSC matches, especially large ones with six or seven stages, having everything contained in a small easy to carry bag is great. Everything else, I keep in a Home Depot tool bag in my car. I like to travel light. I figure if I need something not in my range bag, my car is usually not far away. Since I go shooting during lunch 3 or 4 times a week, the smaller bag works great because I can just grab it and go. It is also small enough to shove under the passenger seat (SUV, no trunk) to keep out of sight.

I've seen some people that carry everything they own in their range bag. They have to lean sideways just keep from tipping over from the weight of the bag.

Everybody is different. Some people like to have everything they could possibly ever need, while others (like me) like to have only the bare neccessities. For some, two smaller bags are better than one large one.

Take everything you might want to carry in a range bag and lay it out somewhere. Decide on what you really want to carry around and push the rest aside. Pick a bag you like that will hold it all( within reason :) ) and go with the next size up.

I know people who bought these large wonder bags to hold all their gear only to later get a smaller one because they got tired of lugging everything around.

when buying shoes at a banana republic outlet store two years ago, i got a decent sized cloth bag with the "banana republic" logo on the side for free. i think they used it to transport a bunch of shoes without the shoeboxes.

anyhow i used it to carry guns/ammo/gear to the range and back. it gave me a warm fuzzy feeling knowing my guns were carried in something so associated with the yuppie sheeple population. and i could walk down busy surburbia and all of sarah brady's disciples would see the bag and think approving thoughts of me :D

of course it ripped after a few months, but it was free and made me laugh...and i do like banana republic clothes when i occasionally want look nice
