Just got back from the range and took along 4 of my very top favorite 9MM shooters - Walther PPQ, CZ SP01, SIG P226, and HK P30L. Two metal from and two poly frame, some old school versus new school LOL. Had a really good time and range was not crowded being early on a weekday. For ammo I used PMC 115, Speer Lawman 115, and American Eagle 124 and 147. For me American Eagle 124 and 147 have become my favorite range ammo getting good results in everything I try them with. I did all shooting on 3 inch Shoot-N-C at 7 yards other then the last 20 rounds of the day being Speer Lawman 115 at 15 yards on a 5 inch Orange Peel target. As usual no issues with any of these terrific pistols. I can't really choose a favorite out of the four though for me my Walther PPQ is the best all around 9MM I own or have ever tried. For some reason I shoot a little low with my German P226 but use the same sight picture on all of them with the front sight dot centered on the target. My SP01 Shadow was the softest shooting being all steel but none of them were much to mention as far as recoil. I sure feel fortunate to own these four fine pistols.

Here are some pictures from today. All 3 inch target dots 10 rounds at 7 yards and Orange Peel 5 inch 20 rounds at 15 yards. Now time to do some maintenance on these beauties with bath and lube.

I would say you can't go wrong with any of them and you have the targets to back that up! Looks like the PPQ and the P226 are pretty close in terms of accuracy but I would be thrilled to have any one of them. Thanks for sharing your 9mm. day at the range.

Thanks!

Well the accuracy was with my old hands and eyes LOL and will vary from shooter to shooter but I believe all four have a reputation of being very accurate combat type pistols.

I like to show targets when I post a range review as it gives some perspective rather that just saying that I was at the range and all my guns shot great for me.

Very unlikely to find a "better" 9mm handgun than the ones you already have there. Maybe a beretta M9A3 and a fine tuned glock 34 and you got all the tack driver combat 9's. The ppq is a gun that does every thing extremely well and the weight and dimensions are very close to that of the famed glock 19. I love my ppq and cz75b very much and will never part with them. I still have a P30L and P226 on my list, they are just down the list a little bit behind my more desirables like the Cz P01, PCR, and walther Q5 match. For the love you have of those guns you should just get the big and little brothers of each (walther Q5 match, Cz P01, Sig P229, P30sk).Good shooting by the way

Thanks! I already have SIG P229/P229 and HK P30SK. I don't plan on purchasing much of anything anytime soon though the CZ PCR is on my list. :D

I was about to voice my surprise at the CZ having the largest group, then I reread the OP more carefully and saw that that target was at 15 yards instead of 7. doh! lol

Nice shootin', Tex! :D

I have two Sig P226. One is 9mm sa/da and the other is a 40 cal dak trigger. These two guns are my most accurate shooters of all my semis. Most of all they go bang no matter what I feed them. sigp226sada.dak 003.JPG
I have to say you are a better marksman than I am for sure. I can't shoot tight consistent very well like you do.

I had 20 rounds left and was out of targets LOL. So I took a used target and put the 5.5 inch Orange Peel target on the back of it and set it out at 15 yards. I don't usually shoot more than 7 yards because of eyesight but I put my prescription glasses under my safety glasses and that worked great. I am going to do that more often. CZ SP01 is certainly one sweet shooter. I love the Orange Peel/Shoot-N-C targets because I can see right away where I am hitting.

Nice P226s and thanks for the picture!

I also have two P226s. The German one I took to the range and a 1999 vintage P226 with stainless steel slide that I bought as a CPO for $499 a few years back. About 5000 rounds through it and never an issue. I put the original version SIG aluminum grips on it when SIG was clearing them out for $65.

Ah, Sigs and H&Ks are my favorites. Been looking at a P30L for awhile now. Might have to buy one now after you sparked my interest with this post. I can't shoot that well but that never stop me from trying.:D

Well you won't get me to try and talk you out of an HK P30L. :D
