Shame on me...I've had my new Lanber for 3 weeks now but today is the first time I could sneak out and try it. My youngest of three children had his 2 year old birthday party this morning...everyone (including Mom) was tired afterwards so I slipped to the range while they were napping.

As mentioned in a previous thread, I'm pretty happy with the external appearance of the Lanber. It's a model 2097 Sporting Clays, 12 ga, 28" bbls. http://www.lanber.net/in/lanber.html I bought it on Gunbroker for $380...they retail for $900 and they are showing up on the auction sites now for around $700...I feel I got a pretty good deal. The first one I had was damaged but Gunfinder.net replaced it with a new one.

The wood on this one is really pretty...highly figured European walnut. The blueing is deep. The receiver is about the color of stainless with fairly nice machine cut engraving...also on the action lever and bottom of trigger guard. Doesn't look as nice as a Weatherby but is several thousand less. Wood to metal fit is good. The gun is well balanced with enough heft (7-1/2 lbs) to swing smoothly. The finish on the receiver is a little less than I'd like to see (not all casting marks out in the curved portions) but not unexpected in a gun of this price range.

I patterned it at 40 yds with the modified and full chokes in. The pattern was well centered in elevation but centered 4-6" right with both barrels.

I shot a couple of rounds of trap with it. I haven't shot trap since 1992 but did OK. The guys with the high end Brownings and Winchesters were shooting 21s and 22s, I shot 19s. Oh well, I'll get better. I tried both barrels but could definitely hit better with the modified choke. I was shooting my reloads...17 gr Red Dot in Fiocchi hulls, WAA12 wads and 1oz #8.

The gun mounted well (the relieved buttpad helped not catch my jacket) and swung smoothly and encouraged follow-through. I lost a couple of birds because I was behind them but that's operator error. LOP is 14.5" and seemed to fit my 5'10" frame well. Recoil was very manageable. The front red "optic" bead really shows up. Extraction and ejection was positive. This action isn't stiff like the first one...opens smoothly and locks up positively.

I'm really happy...possibly the best deal in a gun I've ever made. Now I've got the clay sports bug again.

Thanks for posting that. I think there's folks reading this BB that would like to know real world experiences with various shotguns.

Sounds like a nice shotgun at a good price. Congrats and Mazeltov....
