Well I got the HK USP Compact .40 that I have been drooling over today and threw some lead down range - about 220- 250 rounds.
I've gatta say I'm real torn, because now I feel that I don't need any other pistols : )
I love my XD Compact & XD Sub Compact, and I'd give them a solid 8 on a 1-10 scale. But the HK USPc gets a 10 so far.
1-
Not only is this gun accurate ( I was often able to group shots within an inch at 7 & 10 yards while speed drawing ) it also has less snap than the XDs. and is not as loud - both are .40 cal.
2-
I love the decocker/safety because I can go locked and cocked in single action like a 1911, or decock and carry in DA/SA - and kick on the safety while decocked in DA/SA as well if I feel the need. Very versatile indeed. The safety switch is also well placed and operates just like a 1911, making it very user friendly - not like those safeties that are placed on the slides....
3-
It did not miss a beat, and after having had bought a Wilson that turned out to be a dud and then a Taurus PT145 I have been very skittish about new pistols on both ends of the spectrum.... This one is off to a promising start, and once I get 1,000 through it I will carry it most of the time.
4-
It also points very well. I'm able to draw the weapon and acquire a fast sight picture - allowing me to execute some well placed shots in under two seconds total.
5-
As far as size goes it is slightly longer and taller than my XD Subcompact (about 1/2 inch), but it seems to be a touch thinner. I actually like this, because when carrying IWB at 5 O'clock it puts the grip up just right allowing me to get a fast grasp without my pants and belt getting in the mix. My XD subcompact rides a little low, so I grab pants and belt sometimes, and my XD compact is just a little large for my taste. The HK is right in between the two, and is perfect.
6-
I also love the ergonomics of this weapon. It feels great in my hand, and the texture on the sides along with the checkered front and back make for a great grip.
7-
Closing... I can't say enough about this pistol. If you're looking for a great home defense / CCW this one deserves to be looked at. It is known to be highly reliable, it's accurate, has lots of safety features without compromising functionality, is very ergonomic, and under $900.
