Range report on Taurus 327 in .327 Magnum

Dawson Precision spring kit arrived today. Went in as it should. Trigger went from 8SA/13DA to 4SA and 8 double action. Much improved, I wish the manufacturers could lighten up on their springs some. I know they have their reasons but that DA trigger pull was hard enough that some weak people may not have been able to even shoot it. Plus, on a little gun, which is hard enough to shoot from the start a horrible trigger just makes it that much harder to hit with it.

Now, need to confirm it still goes bang with ammo in it.......
Please let us know how it works out.

You should be good to go now. I have half a dozen or so Taurus j-frames and five of them needed spring kits. They all work fine. They're not as nice as a Smith, but add a $15 spring kit and you can shoot them just as well. :)

Well, mine came in yesterday. I had put it on layaway, but was able to just go ahead and have them send it to my FFL. No pictures of it, but if you've seen one, you've seen them all I suppose. It's the flat black model that takes some getting used to, but I suppose it's fine for a carry gun that's going to get kicked around anyway. Besides, for the price ($319.00) I wasn't expecting a Python. I ran a patch with some CLP through the bore and charge holes and got a little crud out. Then I added a little white nail polish to the front sight, followed by a little orange, and now the front sight POP's out at me. A little oil here and there and things smoothed up a bit.

The trigger on mine isn't awful. I suppose it's a little heavy, but quite smooth. I can either stage the trigger, or just pull it straight through. The S/A pull is right at 7 pounds, but I never use SA anymore, so that's not a concern. No idea on the DA, my scale only goes to 8 pounds. It's not as light as the trigger on my 642 but as I said, it's very smooth. I was sort of surprised, but I'm not sure why. The other Taurus revolvers I've owned had pretty good triggers. I can pull it straight through without moving the front sight off the "target." A little oil here and there didn't hurt it that's for sure. I've probably dry fired it a couple hundred times.

The grip was my other area of concern. The only Taurus grip I've used were their old wood ones which I thought were very good. The "Ribber"...not so much. I had one on a 44 Tracker, and it got replaced pretty quickly. This one gives me a good purchase and gives me a 2 1/2 finger grip. I'll give it a try before worrying about rather I'll need something else.

It's a little bigger I guess than my 642, and heavier. No real surprise there either. It's a steel frame, vs an aluminum "airweight." It's probably 6-8 ounces heavier, but fits into the Don Hume J.I.T. holsters I have for a J-frame. I'm not sure the J.I.T will be a good fit for it though. The J.I.T. works fine with the internal hammer on the 642, but the 327's exposed hammer might want to dig into my side. I may want a kydex model with a side protector. Jury is out on that for now.

I'm planning to take it to the range, either this morning, or tomorrow and give it a few rounds. I don't have any 327 ammo (it's on order) but I do have some 32 Long that I'll give a try.

Got to the range today to test the Dawson spring kit. Had a few rounds which didn't fire on the first strike (3 or 4) out of 100 or so. However, those were CCI or the hard South American primers. All the Federal (softer primers) were fine. So, if I have to carry Federal ammo in it, I am good with it. It hasn't been shot much yet, so may wear in enough to be 100% with all primers in time.

Trigger is MUCH better and I am fine with making the trade off of sticking to Federal ammo/primers in this case. Not something which I am going to shoot 1000's of rounds out of, and when I reload, I'll just be sure to put some Federals in my 32's for it.

Grips for the old Model 85 are interchangeable with the new 856, 327, and 942 revolvers. I run wood 85 grips on my 856 and 942.

taurus 856 here. i hated the oem grips and the roll pin even more. replaced with hogue monogrips and then bicycle inner tube to cover the exposed backstrap. was ok before but a much better shooter now!

You wouldn't by chance have an exact link, or the part number, for the Dawson spring kit you got for the 327, would you? Thanks much.

I had my Taurus out to the range this morning. Fifty rounds of reloaded 32 Long, 50 of reloaded 327 Federal, and 25 factory Hornady Critical Defense 80 grain 32 H&R Magnum. It's a fun gun to shoot that's for sure. The 327 has a pretty good thump to it. The 32 H&R seems promising. I've got at least 500 rounds through it, mostly 32 longs. It just keeps chugging along.
