Range Trip - How Many Guns?

When I'm shooting at an indoor range I take two handguns. I can't take more than about an hour inside a range - after that I get sick of being there.

Outdoors is a different story. I'll stay all day if I have that kind of time! I'll take a couple rifles, a shotgun, stuff like that. I'll wear a pistol, but rarely shoot it. When I'm outside I like to focus on the long guns.

Normally around a dozen. I may not shoot them all but if I leave them at home it is a fact I won't shoot them. I do, however, leave guns at home but I think a dozen is all I care to clean when I return.

It depends on how much time I want to commit. Range is free(annual fee) and I figure on 2 guns per hour for handguns, one per hour for rifles.
All day and with friends...break out the arsenal.

After much trial and error, my number is four. Two long arms, and two handguns. If any of the selected four shares cleaning implement diameter, well, then, all the better.

The exception to that rule is if neophytes, newbies, casuals are along, then what they'd like to try out gets taken, too. But, that is ok, they get to help clean afterwards, too.

Having a chouce at bot rifle and pistol lines allows a person to stop, and "change gears" which can be handy if frustrating conditions occur.

Like you, I used to carry a lot to the range. I've come to realize, though, that I need to focus on goals for each trip and to keep those goals to a minimum so that I don't spend all day there and lose sight of what I want to get out of that trip.

So, for example, I will be going to the range tomorrow with two guns. One is my rifle which I want to zero in a new scope on and test some new reloads as soon as I'm zeroed in. And second, I want to put some lead down the barrel of a new pistol to break it in. That give me a short range, 15yd., and a long range, 100 yd. target to use each round of shooting and I can accomplish all I set out to do fairly efficiently.

And yes, there are days I just take on or two to shoot just to be shooting and have fun. I still call it honing my skills though. :D

I guess I'm a rookie compared to most of you. The most I ever take to the range is two handguns. I usually put 100 rounds through each gun. My problem is that I can't stand for any length of time due to nerve damage in my legs, so I have to limit my time shooting.

That and being ammo is so expensive, I'm really limited. I try to go shooting every other month, and that way I circulate my guns to keep sharp on all of them.

I usually take two to three pistols and will shoot two. Once in a while I'll shoot the third since I have it, just to stretch its legs. This weekend the sleeper ended up making me look better, while the two shooters made me look as bad as I am.

Depends on my focus. If I'm going for fun or with friends who haven't fired before, I bring an assortment. If I'm going for serious practice I bring 1 or 2 personal defense guns so I can spend more time with them.

I had been getting in a habit of bringing more and more guns, shooting 4-5 guns on each trip. This was starting to become a big pain, loading the car with all those guns and having to clean them all. Going to the range starts to become a chore rather than a nice fun afternoon if you have to clean 5 guns that night.

Lately my shooting buddy and I decided to focus on 1-2 guns each trip. Not only is it less cleaning, but I noticed my shooting skills improve much more noticeably when spending an afternoon with just one gun vs. screwing around with several of them. This past Saturday I focused on just shooting my AR with iron sights, and had a blast and felt like I had actually improved my shooting.

I'm limited in what I own, but when I eventually own more stuff, I'll still take the same 4 out - a .22, a pistol, a "range" rifle as stated above, and a shotgun if I feel like it.

TAKE EM ALL!!!
Seriously tho im gun impaired atm and only have 2,but i do have a conversion barrel so i can shoot 3 calibers.
I think ive i ever do get a collection of around 10 or so,id only take 4-5 as i can only carry so much ammo.I dont like making several trips to the car hauling stuff, but something tells me the guys here cheat and use wagons or carts to take all thier guns/ammo into the range.

I have one carbine and one pistol - usually take them both, even if I don't shoot them both. Gives me more options that way as I can then use both rifle and pistol lanes, whichever is available should it happen to be busy.

I usually bring everything I have except for my one plastic gun (so 3 pistols and a rifle) which I've found I just can't love and don't enjoy shooting it as much as the metal ones. Now I'm looking at selling it to fund a similar gun with a metal frame.

I generally take no more than two guns to the range. One is a .22 caliber target p[istol, often a Walther PP, that I use to warm up (and, of course, the ammo is still relatively inexpensive, when you can find it). I generally bring a second gun that I either use for concealed carry (a Walther PPK/S in .380) or a home defense gun (a Walther P99 or Walther P5). These days, it depends on what kind of ammo I have on hand that determines which second gun I'm going to take.

I treat range visits as work -- practice sessions, if you will. I'm not interested in punching holes in paper. I'm interested in staying familiar with my defensive weapons.

I always bring a .22 pistol and a .22 rifle. 1 or 2 other guns usually tag along as well.

I like to "warm up" with the .22s, then I'll go shoot whatever else I brought. And as if I didn't have enough fun already, I like to end by plinking with the .22s like back when I was a kid.

Generally, I take 3-4, my Ruger Mark II and 10/22 are with me every trip, and I usually bring along my Kimber Custom II .45 and my Savage 111 .30-06, recently though, I've been bringing just the .22's due to ammo prices, I don't want to use up my precious .45 handloads, and the .30-06 creates a large, stabbing pain in my wallet every time I pull the trigger....
