I am looking for a place in or around Austin, Texas that will allow the use of Tannerite/SureShot/explosive targets. I will be in town around thanksgiving and want to meet up with some friends and set the stuff off.

If possible, I would also like to destroy several appliances [vacuum cleaners, computers, an lcd tv, etc...with a barrage of firepower [mainly shotguns] We are very clean shooters. At the end of the way we form a fod walk and will leave the place cleaner than we found it.

I am going to record it for my youtube channel and would be more than happy to promote the place. If anyone is interested in the channel it is:

is there anywhere that we can do this?

Thanks for reading!

The high fire danger and burn bans may put the kaibosh on your plans. I know that doesn't answer your question but it's something to think about.

None of the local ranges allow exploding targets. There's also a burn ban in effect; so no shooting explosive stuff on private property.

tannerite doesn't make fire, it actually puts out fire [robs the surroundings of oxygen and creates water vapor.] we tried to make it blow up a can of gas but it blew the flares out [two road flares] its a pretty neat compound.

All of Travis County is still under a burn ban. You could net yourself a hefty fine using anything that produces fire and smoke. After the fires we had in September there is no tolerance for anything that could start a fire. I believe some folks have been ticketed for dropping cigarettes on the ground. If you come back when it is not so dry ask around again.

ok, so tannerite is out of the question, what about the barrage of guns destroying my vacuum cleaners/ tvs/ etc?

I don't know how things are in your locality, but in most, the shooting of old appliances, etc is HIGHLY frowned upon.

Why? I clean up after myself, leave the place cleaner than I found it...had fun, and made some good youtube videos...whats the harm?

Because it's garbage and you are releasing toxins into the environment when you shoot TVs, refrigerators and the like.

Despose of your garbage as garbage, and shoot paper.

and putting the garbage in a landfill doesn't do that? shooting paper and leaving lead deposits in the berm that will seep down and contaminate the water table doesn't do that? using targets specifically printed to be targets, the fuel, energy, resources, and chemicals used to print those targets that you are recommending I shoot?

Recycled targets use way less resources and end up in the same landfill as they would if I were to just throw them away and use paper targets instead. Using paper targets actually presents MORE of a problem for landfills [because of all the byproducts]. Recycled targets are already broken down and are being exposed to UV radiation which will break down many of these chemicals before they even get to the landfill as opposed to being released after being crushed from the next day's garbage or the massive bulldozers driving over where no UV radiation can reach them and the full strength of the chemicals are released on the environment. The chemicals ARE going to be release regardless of disposition, it is just a matter of time.

My vehicle runs on alternative fuels [diesel conversion] and uses the excess energy generated to actually produce Ozone to help restore our world's depleting levels. Who is doing more damage to the environment?

I can see that my kind is not appreciated on this forum,
Thank you all for your time.

Ha,ha,ha....I live in Austin and unfortunately our poor city is becoming infested with this GREEN mentality. Thankfully we are not all like this...if you make a mess and clean it up no harm no fowl....Just beware of the few who tend to Pucker Up to the possibility of damaging our ENORMOUS environment, that has been around for thousands of years!

Texas has been in a severe drought, there has been millions of acres burned and thousands of homes lost due to fires in TX this year...

You might get yourself shot if someone saw you shooting explosive targets. Some counties are handing out 500 dollar fines for firing up the BBQ grill....

saenzrich-- if he's got a mercury, freon, and heavy metals abatement plan in place, fine... if he just plans to pick up the glass, plastic, and metal that's a woefully insufficient cleanup.

It's a long drive, about 4-5 hours from Austin, but Tom Green County (San Angelo) doesn't have a burn ban in effect, and we have at least 2 ranges that let you shoot Tannerite or Sureshot targets.

The main one- aobut 3 miles from town- probably wouldn't let you shoot appliances, but Devil's Mountain Rifle Range- really about 30 miles east of here in Blackwell, most likely would if you call them and talk to them about it.

"tannerite doesn't make fire, it actually puts out fire "

Just sharing my experience. I've only shot tannerite once. One of the 12 targets resulted in a small grass fire (which we ran to put out.) We weren't blowing anything up, just shot the target after it fell in the grass. YMMV.

Here are a couple of videos of me getting a little bit more fun out of my garbage before I send it to the dump. When I left, the range looked beautiful; clean raked, and organized. the garbage got loaded into my trailer and went straight to the landfill :) It was a good day.

I don't know what part of this isn't sinking in to you...

When you are shooting household electronics, no matter HOW much you rake up, you're still releasing toxins into the environment. There's a reason why electronics aren't simply landfilled in most communities-- didn't you ever wonder why?

Moreover, shooting TV's and the like is very toolboxy. It's the stuff of children and neophytes.

Im sorry you feel that way, but in my community, the electronics get lumped into the same landfill as organic waste. It isn't treated, there is no abatement program, it just goes into the landfill. I am at least providing the people of youtube with some entertainment with my waste before it goes to the landfill, where as I said before, everything I released into the environment would be released anyways by the bulldozers that are constantly driving over the mounds, crushing everything down.

Moreover, I take a slight pleasure in the fact that you have resorted to name calling. So while I may be a child or a neophyte, I had fun that day, so much so that I may actually return some day and do it again. I'm truly sorry that you feel I am destroying the environment.

Also 95XL, During the shooting of these videos I saw a very distinct flame/spark when I shot it. I guess the manufacturer was wrong about that! [or I cannot measure 5cc to save my life, either has a distinct possibility]

Referring to a behavior as childish and the domain of the neophyte isn't name calling, it's a statement of fact.

well, it may not be technically name calling, but it's appreciably shy of 'fact'. Go to knob creek machine gun shoot sometime and see how many 60+ yr old men are on the line enjoying shooting random junk. It can be fun. Lighten up.

Otoh, there are SO many videos of blowing up stuff with tannerite on youtube, I'm not sure why anyone would go out of their way to make another unless it was something unique.

I would contest that assertion. By definition, if someone's been doing something like shooting longer than just a short time, then they're no longer a neophyte...

Our city dump/waste management facility doesn't do anything different with tvs or any appliances than any other trash.

Thank yall, and I make youtube videos because I like to be able to watch it anywhere, at any time, and re-live the experience. It is also handy for people who couldn't make it out to the range with me to watch what they missed.

Mainly, I do it because it's fun. I'm not doing anything different from any other time I go to the range except that I record it all now and put it up for everyone to see. It works for me, I have fun, and if there comes a time when it is no longer fun, Ill stop doing it...Although I'm saving up for a slo-mo camera, so that time is probably a long, long way down the road :)
