Other news sources say the man "retrieved" a handgun, but this one ends by saying "Police say the man did surrender his gun and it's not known whether he had a permit to carry it. "

At any rate, sounds like a good shoot. I feel sorry for the guy. . .

I can't speak for the Cops, but if they called the morgue for the suspected rapist, and forwarded an attempted rape report to the DA, without arresting and booking this guy, then that is a big hint as to what they think. Guilty badguy shooters usually go straight to jail.
