Rapper Snoop Dogg in gun quiz

Snoop Dogg won an accolade at the Bet awards ceremony
Rap artist Snoop Dogg could face firearms charges after allegedly riding to an awards show with armed bodyguards in a bullet-proof van equipped with gun ports.

Three of his bodyguards were arrested after the rapper got out of his vehicle in front of the Kodak Theater in Hollywood to attend the third annual Black Entertainment Television (Bet) Awards.

Snoop Dogg is a convicted felon after a drug offence in 1990, and is prohibited by federal law from possessing firearms or from hiring armed security, federal authorities said.

Authorities in Los Angeles said they were considering possible firearms charges against the 30-year-old artist, whose real name is Calvin Broadus.

Lieutenant Art Miller, of Los Angeles Police, described Snoop Dogg's transport as "an Econoline van on steroids", with armoured sidewalls, bullet-proof glass and gun ports.

"Officers watching the front of the theatre saw Mr Broadus get out with several individuals with bullet-proof vests, and that immediately raised suspicion," said Lieutenant Miller.

Police and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives detained and searched 13 people.

They recovered seven handguns, including one with a laser sight and another with an extended magazine with a capacity of 30 bullets.

Three of the men were arrested, two on outstanding misdemeanour warrants and one on a parole violation. The rest were questioned and released.

Snoop went on to win Bet's best collaboration award for the song Beautiful, featuring Pharrell.

In April Snoop Dogg was questioned after a gunman in a speeding car opened fire on a motorcade carrying the rapper and his bodyguards.

Federal law prohibits him from hiring armed security?

I think someone in the media has this wrong. I don't remember anything that precludes a copnvicted felon from hiring armed security. I remember Ted (sub commander) Kennedy's armed security getting arrested for trying to bring an Uzi into the capitol (Ted even got him out of that one).

Does someone know something I have missed.

I can think of some reasons to roust his crew but this isn't it.

only applies to black rap stars

white felons like marky mark can use real guns in his films....
the "security" that was armed were also "peace officers"
peace officers get twice as much or more per hour for "personal protection"
this keeps *real* (like me) armed security from getting ccw.
in CA ...sort of a perk for cops...
I posted all this last night:cuss:

Black people aren't supposed to own guns remember?

^Just remember why gun control started in this country :fire:

It is tyranny of the highest magnitude that any vice can be prosecuted as a felony. Talk about a slippery slope! All they would have to do to disarm the entire population would be to make a short list of vices into felonies; a list that includes actions engaged in by all humans.

Sample list: smoking, obesity (x pounds above a government-approved weight), dieting (fewer than x calories/day), drinking, dangerous sports, greedy economic activities (too much market share or profit), extra-marital sex.

I think MR hit the nail on the head.
To my mind this is an example of how the system has run amok.

Even if you do agree with the war on drugs, you have to admit that it's pretty silly that a guy who's been straight for ten years is still barred from exercising his civil rights.

Watch for the video:

"When ATF girls Go Wild"

They were just gunning for him. It would seem to me that if felons can be protected by police, why should not they have the right to have a bodyguard.

When I go to the market, there is private security with guns. Some restaurants also. So Snoop can't go to these places.
