What stainless steel did/does Colt use? Is it magnetic?

As far as the pics go, can you pull the flash hider and get a close up of the crown? That and a clear pic of any stampings or markings on the barrel and some close ups of the FSB and how it's attached would be usefull.

no i cant remove the flash suppressor at the moment(just installed a new crush washer) BUT the crown "appears" to be a standard Colt Pencil barrel crown(yea know kinda looks like a "sporting" crown on a hunting rifle? i did a magnet test as you and @hardluk1 stated to try IT STICKS NICE AND HARD, so im 99.9% sure its real SS...and the odd thing is IT CANNOT BE A standard SP1 barrel @briansmithtwins It lacks the drilled holes for a standard A1 or A2 sight post? and THE ONLY STAMP on the whole bbl is the "Trademarked Colt C" right in front of the gas key on the underside of the bbl..also my friend who sold me this barrel IS A AR15 GENIUS specializing in Colt rifles, he owns 10 or more Colt AR15s, and is a Master rifle builder out of the military, he is truly smart and knows everything about Colts(he builds civilian custom,police and swat duty Rifles....i trust him what he tells me is the truth,because on many times hes lost sales because he told me to stay away from certain guns,parts which is quality and which is junk, this barrel IS NOT A BUBBA BACKYARD SWAP MEET HOMEMADE JUNKER, its extremely accurate(for a pencil) and handles 5.56natos no problem so that also points to Colt, HEY GUYS IM GOING TO MAKE A VIDEO ON TUESDAY 3/20/12 ...MY YOUTUBE SCREEN NAME IS sinofallsinners --SO PLEASE CHECK IT OUT AND MAYBE WE CAN GET BETTER IMAGES AND PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONS OUT OF IT....as always i appreciate any and all comments! please keep em coming!!

The only stainless barrel Colt made was a 24" heavy profile barrel for their "Accurized Rifle" model.

What you have is not a stainless Colt barrel, unless it was cut down. Can you provide the diameter of the barrel? The SP1 will have a diameter of 0.625" forward of the handguards. If the diameter of yours is greater and it's not stainless than that it will have additional markings shown below. I don't know how Colt's stainless barrels were marked.

yes the barrel is a 0.625 the same as the SP1 pencil, thats why i have that giant gas block, it was the only one handy, i would have preferred a spikes tac, but it works for now
