I need to tap into the vast knowledge and information of the THR community. Looking at a new upper, I need some help with this barrel, it is only marked "SOG 1/9" and I do not know if that means it is 5.56 or .223. That's the only marking on the barrel. If anyone has any knowledge of these barrels, please help me out, I only want 5.56 chambered barrels. Thank you!

If it helps, the upper specs are:

- M4 Flat Top Upper
- SOG Barrel with threaded compensator
- 16" Barrel Length
- 1/9 twist
- M4 Feedramps
- Complete Bolt Carrier Group
- Charging Handle
- ‘F’ style front site post with Bayonet Lug
- Cerro Forge "Key Hole" Upper

Most of the SOG marked barrels are advertised as a 223/5.56 chamber. Heres what I got from their website:
#
Caliber, .223/5.56mm NATO chambered
#
16” M4 barrel Profile
#
1 X 9 Twist, 4140 Chrome-Moly Steel Match Grade Barrel

it means you can shoot both in your barrel. The difference is pressure, but your good to go for both.

Yeah anthony, I checked their website too, I just can't figure out if it is a dedicated .223 barrel or a dedicated 5.56 barrel or is their barrel like a Wylde barrel. I usually use mostly 5.56 and because of leade length in the barrel, I only want a 5.56. I emailed them, but still no definitive answer. Appreciate the help!

I don't know if you are aware of the specifics. A 5.56 has a slightly larger chamber and can shoot either 5.56 or .223. A .223 chamber can is only good for .223. It sounds like they are touting this as a 5.56 chamber, but many are falsly advertised...falling somewhere between. I've seen posts with the extra metal people took out of a "5.56" chamber using a reaming tool to bring the chamber to spec. I would post on one of the AR specific forums and ask for anyone with experience using these particular uppers.
