The RCBS 5-10 scale has a nylon screw coming in from the back of the beam that is used to lock the micrometer poise in place to prevent movement during weighing.
I need one and RCBS does not have.
Anyone know where I could find one or the screw specs.
Also, if careful, could the scale be used without the screw?
Thanks!

The screw being part of the beam balance would effect the zero and possibility the calibration. I think the screw was a #8 or #6-32 tpi, not sure of the thread pitch. I don't have one I can check at the moment. Then again depending when it was made it could be metric.

Does the scales zero out now with the screw missing?

If so check it with calibration weights.

It will zero, but only if I play with the leveling leg. When it is level, just off by a hair.
I am awaiting delivery of my calibration check weights.

Sure. I use it normally without tightening and unless the drum poise is really loose, I don't even tighten when I am trickling powder.

As to the hex head plastic/Nylon bolt, it's 3/8" long and threaded diameter is 0.135" with perhaps #4-40 thread. Head takes 3/32 Allen wrench.

I don't have it anymore. There once was a guy on here that rebuilt Ohaus scales and maybe try member 1066. Walkabout probably knows who I'm talking about.

Good luck.

If you put a different type of screw in you can re balance the scale so to speak by taking out or adding to the lead shot in the pan support, if you shake it you hear a rattle that is the lead pellets they use to balance it at the factory.

To check your scale zero, blow gently on the pan and the arm should return to zero. If not, adjust a little more. I'm like others in that I never locked out the 1/10 gram wheel with the nylon screw. Any plastic could be used to "carve" out a screw.

Got lots of shot, so I shall get on it soon.

Take your beam to the hardware store and see which machine screw fits it and then go to the drawerrs full of oddball hardware and find the corresponding nylon screw. If Lowes or Home Depot don't have it in nylon, order it from zoro.com of amazon. Then recalibrate your scale pan.
