RCBS Bullet Puller

I went an bought a RCBS pullet puller today.The one that looks like a hammer. I put the catridge inside the head and tighten the knob with the bullet sticking out. The thing seems to grap the bullet. But when hammer the head the cartridge slip out and the bullet is still in the cartridge. I tried it four or five time without any success. I flipped the 'collet' inside to face the differnet direction but same thing happened.

What am I doing wrong? Anybody have success with this bullet puller?

I've always had pretty good success putting the collet over the groove at the base of the cartridge case. As you strike the hammer, the bullet ought to point toward whatever surface you're rapping it against.

And we are assuming that it is a enertia hammer? And we are assuming that you placed the cartridge extractor rim in the collet and the cartridge and bullet are inside the hammer? And finally you rapped it on a solid surface. Once, twice or more?? Should't be a problem unless the hammer head is coming off the handle. Is it?

Wild! stupid me. I did what you said Standing Wolf and it works, three hits and the bullet and powder spill out. Thank you for your help. I wish RCBS put a little picture with the product showing how it is used. I suprise them didn't I. Some people are just thicker than they thought.
