Without serial number with me, how common is a 5" 27-2 nickel with combat stocks? Put one on layaway today and what seemed like a good price, even if the nickel was flaking a bit.:uhoh: Revolver was pinned and recessed. Ought to be a great shooter. Checked out perfectly, no turn line hardly at all. Anything else I should look at?

Should be able to pick it up tomorrow or Friday. :banghead:

Do you mean the smooth Goncalo Alves finger-groove combats with the medallions? Those came out after the 27-2 was out of production, so they would be later additions/accessory items. The gun probably originally shipped with checkered target stocks.

Up until 1980 or so, I thought 5" was pretty common; 4" wasn't an option until about then. In that year (or right around then; I can't recall the exact year right now), I think the 3.5" and 5" were discontinued, the 4" introduced, and the 6.5" changed to 6". So for 27's, 27-1, and 27-2, the 5" is a pretty common length. Personally I don't have any 5" N frames - some people claim it is the best balanced of the length options. I don't have enough experience with that length to argue against them!

SaxonPig can maybe add more; I know he has at least one nickel 5" 27 (I think a no dash) and maybe a blue 5", too.

Oro or anyone I would trade a like new in wood box with accesories 27-2 5" for a good 85% or better P&R 3.5" .

It's not that they are rare, it's just that not too many are offered for sale. The 5" N frame is maybe the closet thing to perfection in balance and appearance that a revolver can achieve and them that has... keeps. I love all things 27 and have managed to acquire several, including two 5" examples in nickel.

A nickel 5" 27 is a glorious thing but if the nickel is starting to flake off that's a very bad sign. I love nickel but once it starts to go it goes fast and looks awful.

This one is still in good shape after 49 years.

Not nearly as old, this one is in really nice shape.

Okay, thanks. I think the price is cheap enough that the $190 SW charges to nickel might be well worth it.
