maybe I've been lucky, but I can't think of an animal - deer or hog - that I've shot with the 7.62x39 and 123 SST's that I've had to track. Every single one went down within 30 yards of where I shot them and I haven't recovered a bullet yet. At ranges to 200 yards on live game, I can't think of anything to complain about. I can't say the same - at all - about my experience with the Grendel. Quite the contrary in fact. That's been about my experience with the 123s at 2450 as well. I don't care to track so the last couple deer I popped with the 6.5AR I just put a couple rounds into each.
The only deer I've seen taken with the x39, were shot by my buddy with an sks and 124 get soft points. All took at least 100yds of tracking, or a second round.
I'm loading the 123s considerably hotter than 2450 in my 527, so we'll see how they do.
My buddy was shooting Winchesters I think, the sst didn't exist yet lol.maybe I've been lucky, but I can't think of an animal - deer or hog - that I've shot with the 7.62x39 and 123 SST's that I've had to track. if y'all never hear from me again I thank my fellow noble enablers and contact the redheaded woman with the evil glare for purchase of any of my shooting assets .
With the Grendel I would have suggested 100 gr btips, for deerish game, to cause more dramatic on flesh wounding, saving the 120 weights for tougher stuff or longer distance targets.maybe I've been lucky, but I can't think of an animal - deer or hog - that I've shot with the 7.62x39 and 123 SST's that I've had to track. Oh no, the r1 is still on the table, but that project will cost about $1000 more than the .260 aI project and thus will probably wait until this summer for the big overtime paychecks to help cover my rear, but your interest is noted! My buddy was shooting Winchesters I think, the sst didn't exist yet lol.
Now that I'm thinking about it he actually did fine for the most part, there were a number of notable runners, but we shot a lot of deer and most were uneventful.
@horsey300, so does this mean you've given up on the .270wsm R1s?
Tell your lovely wife the .260s sold, just waiting on the buyer to make room in his gun safe......then shoot it till your bored and I'll buy it from you
Lol! Too true! There's also something in there about horses and whiskey too isn't there?Fine firearms and Redheads.
You definitely have good taste.
It might get you killed, but to die with a smile on one’s face is a glorious aspiration.
Interesting, I haven't driven them nearly that fast.
I thought you were using them
On deer, I think that's a great starting point for the 260.With the Grendel I would have suggested 100 gr btips, for deerish game, to cause more dramatic on flesh wounding, saving the 120 weights for tougher stuff or longer distance targets.
