What do I need to do to qualify to purchase a Garand from the CMP? I've just joined the Texas State Rifle Association and that's supposed to be one of the CMP affiliated clubs here in north Texas. What else do I need to do?
The shooting rule is pretty relaxed, pretty much any organized shoot that involves 50 rounds or more, attested by a range officer. Or, as already listed, LEO or Military Service, or C&R or CCW license.
The club/assn membership is absolute, gotta have it even if LEO/Military. Garand Collectors Assn, or any state's Rifle & Pistol Assn is fine, see the www.odcmp.com site for a full list.
There's no safety test. You don't have to know a sucking chest wound from a hole in the ground.
Move fast - CMP's Garand supply won't last forever.
