Friend of mine passed this along to me today. The Tamp Bay Times researched 200 trials where the "Stand your ground' law in Florida was used as a defense in a case.

The facts are (as usual) nothing like the talking heads would like to have people believe.

First the article that calls on the study:

http://dailycaller.com/2013/07/16/b...and-your-ground-law-at-disproportionate-rate/

... approximately one third of Florida “Stand Your Ground” claims in fatal cases have been made by black defendants, and they have used the defense successfully 55 percent of the time, at the same rate as the population at large and at a higher rate than white defendants, according to a Daily Caller analysis of a database maintained by the Tampa Bay Times.

And the actual study from the Tampa Bay Times:

The lib-dems never let a few facts get in the way of a bad law their nanny state intellects know we need.

Definitely interesting! I DID run the stats manually and found that despite the accused being found "Not Guilty" more often if black, if the VICTIM is black, they have a much less chance of being found guilty.

By Color of Accused:
Color:Conv-Acq-Pend Conv %
Black:11-24-9 31%
White:25-40-11 38%
Hisp: 2-7-1 35%
All: 39-73-21 35%
SO A black defendant is LESS likely to be convicted than the general public.

By Color of Victim:
Color:Conv-Acq-Pend Conv %
Black:7-25-8 21%
White:30-39-9 43%
Hisp: 2-7-1 35%
All: 40-73-20 35%
HOWEVER if a white man is killed, you have an 8% greater chance of being convicted than general public, but if you kill a black man, you have a 14% LESS chance of being convicted.

I thought it was interesting (nothing we can really take from it otherwise), but it might be asked of us.

I find it interesting and a bit confusing. If someone trying to rob you shoots you in the leg and then points the gun at your chest and by some miracle you're able to shoot and kill him, he's not the perpetrator of an armed robbery, assault, attempted murder. He's the victim. "A guy tried to kill me and I defended myself by victimizing him, officer."
