I don't own but one lever action and that is an old Winchester model 94 30-30 I never use, decided to get me a Marlin model 94 in .44 mag for hogs. do any of yall that own one or familiar with one know if you can replace the rear sight with a peep sight. don't really want to scope it, I know it side ejects, but most of my shots are gonna be within 50 yards. thanks.

I got 3 pastures I run cattle one, all infested with hogs, sometimes got to go in after them, this carbine will match up with my .44 mag Blackhawk. my deer lease has got shots past 500 yards, but my old eyes cant see that far, and cant see shooting that far even if I got lots of rifles capable. cant wait to get that Marlin .44 ready to go. thanks again.l

Marlin/Williams peep

$30 bucks @ Midway. Love it ! It fit right in the scope mount holes. a little blue lock tight on the screws, over 100 rounds and still tight
Had to change the front sight also, $10 bucks, went with a .375" wide x .406" high with a 3/32" gold bead (should have gone 1/16").
Put Orange Hi-Viz modeling paint on the bead. I'm shootin 4"-5" @ 100 yds - 10 shots off hand with a sling.
The peep can be unscrewed for a Ghost Ring type sight (for dark heavy timber) or left in for longer ranges.

Nice sight Tahoe. I have to get the longer Skinner version. Whoever mounted a scope on my Marlin in the past used some type of adhesive or something between the rings and receiver. Can't get it off, so will cover is up with the sight.

I have XS sights on my 1894, 336's, a couple of 94's and Skinner on my 39. I have good history with the XS sights; they are tough. I do however like the set of Skinners on my 39. I would give the XS a good look at though. I have beat the heck out of mine in your fine state on hog missions and they have held up well.

I like the Skinner on my 1894c. You may need a front sight, they are not expensive so order one at the same time and save the postage.

The Skinner has a removable iris (aperture) that leaves you with a a ghost ring sight, which is very handy for faster shooting. Also you can choose from several sizes of apertures.

I really like the Williams on my Marlin 444. Easily adjustable and didn't need to change the front sight. I thought about a tang sight, but they look rather fragile in comparison. Especially in brush, and less to snag on. 100 yards no problem.

appreciate all the input, like I said, in my area almost every rifle we have is scoped due to long shots like in senderos or open pastures. Skinner, and Williams sound good so far. I would use my old 30-30 but in my new pasture a pistol caliber just makes things a little wiser to use.

you can unscrew the aperature from the peep and use it as a ghost ring.

I have used the skinner lo-pro and the williams 5d sights. I kind of prefer the 5d for the ease of adjustability and low cost.

And all that said, I would keep the 30/30 as a hunting round. Just load it with a heavier bullet, or load it with less powder or whatever. I have both 44mag marlin and 30/30 marlin, even a 357 marlin and a 357 rossi. There isn't much difference in weight, size or recoil from a hot 44mag and a 30/30.

The 357's are a lot more fun to shoot.

I have Williams sights on my 1894C and 39A. I am happy with them.

I have not tried the other manufacturers so i cannot comment on them.

I've run red dots, but I have issues with them and have abandoned them. They seem to wander with different head positions, and I guess I can't get a consistent mount.....

I ran a 2x pistol scope and a marlin as a scout setup for a while. It was kind of chunky, but shot the lights out.

I'm not GBE, but I had a 5d on an 1894 for a couple years before I sold the rifle. New one's got a low-pro, and I don't think I like it as much.

5D has lots and lots of adjustment in all directions. As much or more than any other sights I am aware of. Now, it's a set it and forget it sight. You don't go adjusting it up a little on the fly. For that get a williams fp. As far as 75-100 yds, if I could see it around the front sight I could hit it.
