Reasonable Price Ruger Security Six

Okay I'm going to take this cannon to the range sometime in the next few days but looking over my ammo raised another question.

I tend to trust any gun made after the mid-eighties in terms of strength but this one was made in '79. I know it's supposed to be an extremely strong pistol but will it handle a regular diet of full power (possibly even a slight bit hot) .357 Magnums or should I take it a little easy on the beastie?

Thanks
Ze

Unless you see obvious issues it should eat 158 gr. no problem. I started there with mine and went up from there to some loads a friend cooked up. Gun handled them fine, I had to take a break.

Blue book, as usual, undervalues these. Going rates have been going up--esp. for the shorter barrel variants. I would expect to see Speed and short Securities going for well over three bills in the future.

This is one nice revolver, regardless of the barrel length. Although I prefer stainless, a Security-Six is one of the best magnums you can get.

I've always wondered why someone didn't offer a service of removing that damned warning on the barrels! It's the one thing that's detracted from the looks of the guns.

Woah, there are about 8 posts that just vanished in this thread including my posted target from taking the Security Six to the range!

So here it is again...

I expected to have to dink around with the sights quite a bit when I got to the range and to my amazement the very first shot tore the "10" out of the center of the target! So taking my time and doing slowfire single action I got the following results...

Then just for fun I did another target rapid fire (double action). Six shots left-strong and six shots right-weak.

Nice targets.

Yeah, I think the days of getting these guns for less than $300 is long gone. I suspect their prices will rise even more as new shooters try to locate them. The shooting community really does need a lighter .357.
