I have a model 1938 Turkish Mauser which has a rust and pitting inside of the barrel pretty bad so I want to rebarrel it to get some decent accuracy. Thinking of keeping it in 8mm because I currently reload for it but may go 308 as I also load that. I just don't know which type of ring the Turk is. Is it large or small? I cannot tell.
Also does anyone have any recommendations for barrel manufactures?

If you want an accurate rifle, go buy a Savage Axis, Ruger American, or Mossberg ATX. They are inexpensive, (probably less than a rebarrel on that Turk) and far more accurate than you could hope to get the Turk to shoot. Keep and shoot the Turk Mauser as a relic of days gone by, and appreciate the history of milsurp rifles.

OTH, for every one that gets Bubba'd up, mine become more valuable.:neener:

If you want to keep it in 8x57mm as well as in military configuration, there are pull off barrels and sometimes new military step barrels on site like Gunbroker.com. After market barrels are plentiful once you know which barrel it takes. A large ring Turk action doesn't necessarily mean it has a large ring thread. This is a good site for any Turk owner. Good luck! http://www.turkmauser.com/

I have accurate rifles that are much higher quality than the ones you listed.
This is a project for fun and learning. I have several of these turks but this one is in terrible shape so I though why not?

so I thought why not?
Why not indeed. There is no collector's value to be lost here(unless it was used in a specific historical event with provenance to back it up). Turk Mauser are great donor actions for some very nice sporters. I have a K.Kale (large ring receiver/small threads)that I put a .280 heavy barrel on but sold the barrel before completing the project. As of right now...a .257 Roberts is the likely candidate for a new barrel.
