I was wondering if a large ring 98 mauser firing pin will work in a long 38 turkish bolt. I have a cobbled together a k/kale that is pretty nice but it needs a firing pin. I wasn't sure if the turk pin is unique or if a model 98 will interchange or even need to be fitted. Thanks for replies.

Turkish Mausers kinda vary--long action large ring, long action small ring, etc. as some started as genuine German GEW 98's, some were purchased made to order e.g. 1903 models, and so on.

Hoosier Gunworks has an excellent reference page on their website dealing with the different receiver lengths and bolts that might lead to to the correct result (http://www.hoosiergunworks.com/catalog/mauser_reference.html). Steve Wagner's pages on gunsmithing the Turkish Mauser may also give you a clue. (http://www272.pair.com/stevewag/turk/turkmain.html)

That being said, if it is truly a Model 38 Turkish homebrew with the long action but small ring , you should be able to fit a std. 98 pin. If is a updated 1903 Turk then probably not.

It may very well take some fitting of the lugs and/or firing tip protrusion to get it to work of any new firing pin whether it supposedly fits or not. Sarco does have a new 4140 Generalized Mauser 98 firing pin that they claim works with most variations of the std. length 98 receiver at about twenty bucks or so.

Thanks for the replies. I went ahead an ordered a 98 pin and we'll see how it fits.
