I have a S&W model 1000M shotgun that is in need of rebluing. My local gunsmith quoted a price of $175.00 to reblue my gun. I've never had any reblueing work done, so am not sure if the price is good or not. Whats y'alls opinion. Thanks!

Thanks Jimmy Ray, unfortunately i haven't seen any of his work. I'll go back and see if he has any that I can inspect. A friend who put me on to this guy says he does good work. He also gave me a price of $150.00 for a matte finish instead of a polished one. I can't decide which would be better. Its a hunting gun so maybe the duller finish would be better. Either way the gun really needs attenton. Thanks again.

Bluing

that's not a bad price when you think what has to be done.
the weapon has to be disassemeled;degreased;polished or blasted(depending on the finish)and degreased again before they even get to the bluing tanks.

If you are good enough, you can ask him his price for bluing if the gun is fully disassembled by you. But note that you would take full responsibility if any parts are missing when you go to reassemble it.

Since I always want to control the finish on any gun I have reblued, I always dis-and re-assemble, and polish, any gun I take in for bluing. Of course, I only take in the parts that need to be blued. The gunsmith knows me and knows I won't give him a lot of static if something turns up missing.
