Hey guys. Back in 2020 I came here after I had a beautiful MP-30 parts kit get mangled in the rebuild. To recap:

After some pressure and arguing on his home forum, the builder refunded half my fee. I was so sick of dealing with it and not prepared to go legal, so I just took the money and put it toward the repair. "Repairing" (for lack of a better word) the damage ended up costing more than in did to have the work done (at original price); I had the receiver interior rewelded so it was smooth, had the fake waffenampts welded over, and had it reblued. There were limitations to what could be done. Because the filler metal on the waffenampts was not the same as the surrounding metal, my gunsmith was unable to restore the lighter blue finish it originally had without the spots showing, so he just went dark. It also has a matte finish that I'm not satisfied with, but it is what it is now.

I took it home, stuck it in the safe, and didn't take it out again for a few years, because everytime I saw it it made me sad. This weekend I decided it was time to get over it, so I took it too the range. It had a lot of ejection problems, but I think it's probably fixable. I don't have high expectations on the performance of these shop-done subgun conversions, I was mostly into it for the history and appearance to begin with.

Anyway, some photos of what it looks like now, for better or for worse. 🤷‍♂️

NIce looking rebuilds!

Always liked the look of the left side horizontal mag feed (the MP28, Lanchester, Sten, Austen, and Sterling come to mind)

Two never before seen (at least by me), submachine gun conversions!

Sorry to hear you had to go through so much hassle with the "builder".

I wasn't aware of it until just now, but it turns out one of my gunsmiths did a write-up on their blog about the work they did on this piece.

That would make me unbelievably perturbed if they took your story and photos of your gun, and published it without your knowledge let alone your consent. Especially if they embellished your happiness with the finished product.

I'm okay with them publicly discussing their own work, and the history of the device they were working on. And I was happy with the work they did, but my feelings are still bound within the limitations of what was possible had the damage not been done in the first place (something neither they nor I can do anything about). Keep in mind here that while the final results were a significant step down from what I'd hoped for when I first sent the kit off, they were a a whole lot better than the "ruined forever" that I was afraid I'd get after I initially received it in it's trashed form. I'm pretty grateful for that.
