hey My Name Is Tyler Davis I Just Got A Ruger 10/22 Carbine Rfle Modeled After The M1, It Consists Of A 10 Round Box Clip. I Have Been Using Federal Classic 36 Grain Hollow Tip Ammunition. The Ammo Is Fair But It Has Jammed A Few Times During Target Practice.
I Need To Know What Yall Think Is A Good Brand Of Ammo. I Personally Prefer Cci But They Are Expensive, And Winchester Seems To Do Fine!!
I Also Have An Old Western 22lr Pistol 6 Shot Jp Sig Brand About A 5 Or 6 Inch Barrel. I Dropped It On Concrete And The Gear Shift For The Cylinder Broke Now The Cylinder Free Spins Which Isnt Too Much Of A Problem Considering The Fact That I Know How To Line The Bullet Up With The Barrel What Should I Do About This?
And Last But Not Least I Own A Detectives Special 38 Special Good Looking Gun 2 Inch Barrel, People Have Told Me To Use The Higher Grains Of Ammunition For This Particular Weapon Any Suggestions?

About the 22. I have had good luck with 22LR, Federal Value packs from WalMart. I usually shoot a Ruger Single-six. The worst for me is Remington. I bought one brick and each time I used it I pulled out shards of lead from the Gun. Thank God the lead is so soft, the bullet still seemed to get out, at least most of it. CCI Standard Velocity has been best for me

Good luck

Ummmm, is there a reason for the extra large type and all CAPS in your post?

Like said above, I've also found CCI Standard Velocity .22 ammo to be a very good. It's accurate in my rifles and fires well in both my pistols too.

I don't understand your ammo question for the Colt...

My Ruger 10/22 eats a steady diet of CCI Blazer 40 grain, High velocity, and most recently sub sonic.

No FTF, FTRTB, FTE.

federal is the best bulk you can feed your 10/22, so i would replace the extractor. if it's stock, then it's junk. VQ makes a nice extractor.

every 10/22 is finicky, but one thing they tend to agree upon is federal bulk pack.

CCI MINIMAGS! oops sorry... :neener:

CCI MiniMags - The best I have found and is all I shoot in 22s anymore...

Its been said...

Best Match quality ammo
* Eley Match and Tenex
* Lapua Master and Midas
* Wolf match

Best Midrange quality ammo (for hunting, target, whatever)
* CCI Stinger and Mini-Mag
* Federal Gold Medal Target and Automatch Target
* Winchester Super-X (tie with Remington Viper Hyper Velocity)

Best practice quality (inexpensive) ammo
* Federal American Eagle
* Winchester Wildcat

I've always had great results with CCI MiniMags; so what if they cost more. I'd rather be enjoying shooting my 10/22 than clearing jams every few rounds. The worst ammo I've found tends to be anything Remington; doesn't matter what variation, way too many problems with it.

First, Welcome to THR
Second, turn off the caps lock and no bold
Third, rifle posts go in the rifle category, even about a 22lr 10/22
Fourth, do not shoot the JP sig/Sauer and Sons western revolver until it has been fixed.
Fifth, the Detective special should shoot just about any 38 spec, from 120 gr wadcutters up to 158 grain round nose or LSWC.

There is something SERIOUSLY WRONG with your "Western" revolver...the cylinder bolt/stop/lock (Name varies by maker of gun) is not latching into the cylinder, holding it in the proper position.

VERY BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN IF SHOT IN THIS CONDITION.

I used to shoot everything but I'm now completely loyal to Federal Champion 510. Shoots in everything, very accurate, consistent, somewhat clean. I only get maybe 1 dud out of 200, which is above average compared to other stuff I've shot. CCI makes great ammo but none of my guns are consistent with it and it's expensive comparatively.

wow,,,you guys are really hard on Remington:confused:,,,,i have a browning buck mark 22 that will shoot the center out of a bulls eye target,,i know I've done it,,and never miss a beat

and i have a 10/22 ruger that likes them pretty good too,,,,never had one jam it up and it will shoot nickle size groups at 25 yrds.

i used to get them at Dick's,,,,but i don't live buy one anymore so it is wally world now.........bulk pack golden bullet hollow point

ocharry

The 40 grain Rem Golden bullets have always done a pretty good job for me (they have put some batches out w/o enough priming material in the rim). The 36 grain Fed stuff cycles all of my guns but the accuracy is crappy. CCI Mini Mags are good, too. YMMV

Do not shoot the single action until you get it fixed, just don't do it.
As 22's my 10/22 shoot almost every thing but Fed bulk. CCI mini-mag seems to best all a round. Aqulla Supermaximum and Fiocchi 40gr CPSP shoot real well also but smell "skunky".
My Colt 2" likes Winchester 125 HP. You can use +P but I've notices no real advantages with them out of a short barrel.

For fun I use Remington Golden Bullet bulk packs. For reliability, I use CCI Mini Mags or Velocitors. The 10/22 seems to like hotter loads... no pun intended.

On the 10/22, my wife's had the same problem when new. We normally ran Federal bulk stuff from Wally, but they would FTE (fail to eject) at least 1 out of every ten shells. Did a thorough cleaning and this did not help. Went with my old stand by, Thunderbolt 22lr ammo and accuracy is better and we have yet to have another FTE. Have gone back to the Federal bulkies once or twice, and still FTE probs, although not as often. The Thunderbolts aren't that much more, which keeps them quite a bit less than the CCI stuff and the Goldens...in which I like as well.

Anyhow, each and every gun out there usually likes a particular round better then the other. My suggestion to you is to get a box of each available to you and see what works best for ya.

As far as the western style revolver is concerned, take it to a smitty and go from there. I wouldn't fire a single shot out of it until it;s fixed, for your safety, and those around you.

Oh yes and... welcome to THR!!!

look for anything by Eley, which will be most expensive, Aguila, which is Eley made in Mexico, Golden Eagle, which is Eley made in America, and then cci.
A good cheapie seems to be American Eagle; it is in a red box, and if you read closely it is made by federal. they are less than 2 bucks per box usually.

Just so you know, Eley is the finest rimfire made ammo in the world, no one else even comes close
to their production methods.

Well, first of all, get a box of 550 .22 no matter what they are, run them through the 10/22 then clean it. This is the break-in, the 10/22's kind of need this period to smooth things out, then the same ammo you've been having problems with probably will have no problems now. I do like the boxes of 550 from wal-mart for easy shooting, oddly enough most failures that Ive seen in the "live ammo disposal" bin at the range are CCI's.. and the brass on the bench/floor are mostly federals and remmys'. Just a observation.

Eley & the Remington Eley are the most accurate I've shot. Haven't tried Wolf.

Federal Gold Medal is very good & good value.

CCI Mini-Mags are the best all around ammo. Check prices - after Jan 1 I've seen it range from $5.69 to $8.00 a box!

Federal bulk pack is my favorite plinking ammo.

I don't like American Eagle red box.

Lapua Midas, RWS, Eley Subsonic, Aguila and then Eley Tenex at least that is the order of preference for my Cz 452, CCI Minimag, Stinger are good for plinking.
